A while ago I stumbled on the IMDB page for a film called "District 9". I, along with others, put forth reasonable arguments showing that the film could very likely be a cover-up for the movie adaptation of Halo, since the director and executive producer were the same and the proposed release date was the same.
It turns out I was wrong: The film is something far greater than a Halo adaptation.
District 9 is a full-length version of Niel Blonkamp's insanely great short film "Alive in Joburg".
The first thing that was shown to the public were some signs hanging around Comic Con this year.
They had simplistic, legalistic renderings of aliens crossed out with an X and standing next to a sink and a toilet, with the words "Restrooms for Humans Only" and "Non-Humans Banned" on them, and below the URL "D-9.com" and a logo for a fictional organization called the MNU, or Multi-National United.
This sign was also seen: http://flickr.com/photos/popculturegeek/2698201056/
The aliens on the images and the context are directly related to Alive in Joburg , which is about a race of aliens trying to intermingle with humans.
This is obviously the beginning of a viral marketing campaign in the same vein as the one for Cloverfield.
I'll be updating this thread with news and links.
