The concept of double framing in 24 fps animation has long eluded me. Could someone help explain it to me and show me a step-by-step of how to use it. Would be greatly appreciated!

You make two frames instead of one, for when you're too lazy to animate everything at 24 fps.

honestly, it's not real complicated, just press the next frame button another time

Ok. Well double framing in 24 fps is basically animating at 12 fps. To do it, draw your first frame as normal. Then instead of just pressing f7 to insert a new blank frame. Press f6 first. Then press f7. What you have done is made a copy (double) of the first frame. And continue to do this for the rest of your animation. This is double framing. Its an easy technique to use and its great if you cant animate at 24 and you want to join a collab or something that requires you to.

it adds a slomo effect and makes it dramatic.

I'm meant I'm having trouble integrating it into explosions, like what Terkoiz and Stone do.

Specifically when to double frame in explosions

If you want to double frame at 24 FPS then animate everything at 12 FPS so it looks like this at 12 FPS
0=New frame.

0000000000

Then add a new frame in between them so it looks like this

0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-

Now when the animation is played at 24 FPS it looks the same as it did when it was at 12 FPS before the double frame. The better way to do it is to use onion skins and make each new frame you add, a new blank keyframe and redraw it so its smoother. so instead of looking like this when finished
0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-
It looks like this
00000000000000000000

The final outcome looks alot better, and its also a good way to figure out how to animate a move or technique you've never done before.

When I animate explosions I do the firey part normally and double frame the smoke particles afterwards. I find it looks better, since the smoke is supposed to be dissipating more slowly anyways.

Thanks The Pirate, that and cheezeh's explanation really did it for me. When I saw other people do explosions, I always wondered how they got the smoke to dissipate so smoothly, but Rather Cheesy did it for me.

Double framing makes things less smooth, not more so.

When you finish the anim, keep pressing . F5 . F5 . F5 . F5 until the whole anim is doubleframed.

Thanks Raffeh, suck it up sticksuicide, and I don't know if Lixu is refering to me. Oh and sorry about that noobish message Raffi. The thread should die now, problem solved.(not that I don't appreciate the advice.)
