Quote from KagedanjiThe only thing I was against was that you thought some characters didnt fit in, you could be annoyed at the characters for other reasons. Smash Bros is supposed to be a game with a mix of characters from all different video games. Since they're Nintendo, they can only have Nintendo characters because legal rights stop them from using third party chars without permission. If there weren't any legal rights to those third party characters, they would just stick em all in the game, they aren't trying to make it Nintendo chars only, and the game doesn't have to be Nintendo chars only. If a gamer can play as two fave chars from different games in one game, he/she's happy. That's what made this game so fun.
Super Smash Brothers. As in, Nintendo brothers. Moron.

No, Super Smash Bros. As in Super Mario Bros. "Moron." But not all the guys there are from Mario are they? No. Mario just happens to be the center of the game.
Didn't you know that Super Smash Bros. is a pun off of Super Mario Bros?

Hey, if characters that have been on the Nintendo console are in it? What about Megaman or other characters that have appeared on one of the consoles?

Wow, you didn't see the pun on Super Mario Bros.? Holy shit.
Sonic is on Nintendo consoles now.
Solid Snake has been on the NES, SNES, and Gamecube.

They're definitely supposed to be just nintendo characters, kagedaegfaioji.
The whole point of the game is to fight with your favorite nintedo characters. Did you ever wonder why nobody in the last two games was from another company?

Erm, Metal Gear WAS owned by Nintendo, and Sonic is owned by Nintendo now.

I believe the point was to fight with your favorite video game characters in general. Lincensing was the thing that made it Nintendo-only for the two games that've been released. Now Nintendo has more licensing/permissions and has recieved requests. Nintendo would include every unique third party character in there as long as if they had enough time to get permits for the characters, and enough development time.
Do you seriously think the devs only wanted their same-old characters in the franchise to please the fans?

Did I miss a memo or something here?

Lets see.
Metal Gear was on the NES, it doesn't mean Nintendo owned it.
Sonic isn't owned by nintendo. That's Sega. It's their ****ing Mascot. They wouldn't ****ing sell their Mascot unless Nintendo buys the ****ing company, which wouldn't be too suprising.
Where the **** do you get your information?

What Inanimate probably means is that they have a deal with Sega now that let's them share Sonic. Most of the recent Sonic games are on Wii, Cube, and DS. Nintendo doesn't own Sonic, but they're using him more than Sony, and he happens to be pretty popular, but you don't see Sony using him, so Nintendo must have a few rights to Sonic now, they just didn't consider using development time for him until now.
I do disagree with Inanimate and agree with 2D about Metal Gear. Even if Nintendo somehow had rights to MG long ago, they wouldn't have them now, Kojima is making deals with Sony for MG. Snake is in Brawl because of a late personal request from Kojima to put him in Melee. The reason Snake is in there is because of a friendly favor, it has nothing to do with contracts and rights.

Um, there's more than just those same characters that Nintendo has to offer, Kage. Nintendo has created many different games in it's time. So it's not like they don't have more than enough characters to add to their games. There's still many different game characters to add out there including some of the lesser appreciated sidekick characters of characters previously added.
And you're missing the point of Super Smash Bros entirely. It's a Nintendo based game. They're not going to go and add Master Chief or Carl Johnson or Dante to their games. If they did, that would just mean they're trying to hook in fanboys of Sony and Microsoft. Which is unnecessary because they already make enough money from what they get from their throngs of Nintendo fanboys.
