So, Alph, I read over the Doctor, looks, personality, abilities and weaknesses, and I've gotta say, I do not care for him at all as he is. And you know why? The reason is,
I don't tend to care for absolutes.
Absolutes are a tricky thing, and even moreso when it comes to a competitive setting. One or two absolutes may be alright, depending on how they're present and written, but in a general sense, absolutes are a writer's bane. To create an absolute is to remove limitations, and without limitations, one finds themselves with static. It dulls the mind, and at its worst, leads to regression or stagnation.
When I looked over the Doctor, here are the things I found that, in particular, bothered me:
J-BAR - Today 12:59 PM
> -Absolutely noticeable wherever he goes
-Absolutely perfect body
-Absolute immunity to psychological attack/invasions/powers
-Absolute emotional control and immunity to emotional manipulation
-Absolute ability to manipulate emotions
J-BAR - Today 1:00 PM
> -Absolutely can't have anything break his focus in battle
-Absolute medical skill
-Absolute weapon skill
-Wisdom to the point of reading the future
J-BAR - Today 1:01 PM
> "David is totally and completely reliant upon his insane endurance to fight. You can either push him over the brink (which would be difficult or even impossible), or simply find a way to keep things at your pace (either ending them quickly or keeping yourself from becoming taxed)."
Now, while you can argue that with age comes wisdom and time to improve skills, you've created a character that took his immortality and turned into a god-complex maniac who saw himself above others, already a questionable topic, and made him into perfection beyond humanity without flaws or real character defects. And let me tell you, that's not just a bad thing, it's a goddamn
boring thing. I've said it before, but inmortality is the worst curse you can bestow on intelligent life. Without a set time limit, life tends to lose its meaning. There is no rush to do anything, no need to accomplish because you can always do later, or simply wait. Yet David seems to have no issues with any of this. He maintains this subjectively perfect body that by no definition should be possible, has a flawless memory and intellect to the point of being able to predict the future, has mastered this and mastered that, and yet he somehow still seeks to achieve. There isn't anything
left to achieve. By all rights, he should he bored out of his mind at all times! He should be suicidal! He should have
SOMETHING wrong with him, but he doesn't!
And then having him be this absolute entity. "If he steps in the room, you
will notice him," "If he touches you or looks you in the eye, he
can manipulate your emotions," "If you battle him, don't even think about trying to manipulate any aspect of his being because you're shit out of luck in the brain department because he has it on total lockdown." All that would make him human aside from appearances is gone. He is essentially the embodiment of a Gary Stu. He has range, close range, money, cars, magical powers that are indestructible and he can manipulate with his subconscious so now you've got 3 Gary Stus to deal with... it's just bad character design.
If the term "perfect" can be used to describe any part of your character, then you should double check and evaluate said character because there is probably something wrong with them.
Seriously. What is this nonsense.
