If this has been done before, please tell me. It just popped into my head and I thought it was interesting.

If you're not familiar with the Smash Bros. series, in competitive Smash, "doubles" is pretty much just a 2v2 where two players are on one team, 2 are on the other, and Team Attack is on. It'd probably be a bit confusing and require a LOT of collaborative effort and communication among teams and among all four participants, but would such a thing be feasible in the wRHG setting? Like, say, each team submits a piece they collaborated on and they're judged as a team rather than as individuals. Alternatively, perhaps each person could submit their own piece and both pieces are judged together.

Something like that. Thoughts?

The idea of doubles has been floating around forever, really, but people never get to it. Either the writer in question does not wish to team up, or the four writers are too lazy/undisciplined to properly finish this battle and it ends in a forfeit from one side.

In all my time here I haven't exactly seen any doubles. The best we got so far was a battle royale, and two clan wars (me alone vs Blade Mercs / Night creatures v Nehushtan). I haven't seen a fully fledged two on two yet though I'd be willing to try one, if the opportunity ever showed itself and I felt enough for it.

I think that generally, the consensus is indeed that both teams would write a collaborative work and they would be judged together for this piece.

So... here's what we(I) have seen:

1) Duo wRHGs.
Going with the Smash Bros example- Think Ice Climbers. We've had wRHGs before that were tag teams- meaning the profile contained two characters that fought together as a singular unit, written by a single author. Rhami and Astor would be an example for a duo wRHG character. We've had these type characters battle solo wRHGs without much trouble.

2) wRHGs that can create clones / have been cloned.
I can only think of one wRHG off the top of my head that this applies to, and that would be Doctor David Macbeth. At various stages of his development he has been able to and could potentially still, albeit with a few retcons, create a carbon copy of someone else's wRHG character whilst still functionally being a wRHG character himself. What we would call it if Alphaeus were to battle two people at once I wouldn't fucking know, but it'd be a stone's throw away from a 2v2.

3) Clan War(s) / Large Scale Battles
Speaking of Alph- we've had writers battle each other and drag other characters into it. The primary example of this would be the Coils v. Night Creatures Clan War, but at least one secondary example exists in Alph v. Codincx, wherein- had Codincx won, say- all of the Coils at that time would have been wiped off the map had we all agreed to that outcome (which we hadn't prior to the battle, but could have opted to choose afterwards). Also there's the thing Vern mentioned that Vern did.

4) wRHG Tournaments / Battle Royale
We've also had tournaments where we either battled each other one at a time or everybody jumped in and tried to battle each other with marginal success and surprisingly decent turnout save for that one fuckhead who just killed his character and mentioned nothing of the other 7 something participants

But no, I haven't seen a true, successful 2v2. I feel like Azure and I almost did something of the sort -- maybe we wound up challenging the same people at the same time or something like that, I forget- but no- we've never had an actual, straight-up 2v2 before as far as I'm aware. I'd be in support of it under the right circumstances, though.

I'm afraid Clan wars are incredibly difficult. For starters you need two clans (or one clan and Vern) who are willing to duke it out.

a nice big ol block of words that pretty much summed everything up for me

I've seen a few of those duo/ IC characters around. I think they're interesting, and if you can write the two with a fun, interesting dynamic, than all the more power to you. I had a concept on paper originally for mine that had to do with two characters (one being Elias as he is now, the other being less of a character and more of a parasite that could enhance his powers in exchange for some of his sweet, sweet bone marrow. I eventually scrapped it, but I might do something with it in the future. ;^)

I certainly understand why people wouldn't want to do it, or anything like that, but at the same time it's just something that appeals to me, and perhaps might even help me make a bit of a name for myself in the Writer's Lounge (granted, I could do that just by doing normal 1v1s). Perhaps one day I'll find three others willing to partake in such an event.

More power to you. Best way to go about that is put yourself out there, get to know people who might be interested, and figure out when and if they're available.

MOAR (Clan Wars / Large Scale Battles) plz

I'd be willing to try and build up to something of the sort if we had a good amount of people interested in seeing it through to fruition. Could be a while.

I've seen some 1v1v1s too. I think a 2v2 would be interesting, but story wise might be tricky to set up

If there's a will, there's a way. I'm gonna change the game. B^)

Well I have a fresh new character, mindset and will to write. I am willing to team up with pretty much anyone or hell I have the scrap heap of characters so I could be my own team.

@Piston

Well, if you were your own team that really wouldn't be 2v2. That's just 1v1 WRITERS that are bringing extra people into play, which as been done regularly and is fairly easy.

Full on 2v2 as in two writers vs two writers would be what's tricky, but still easy enough to do. I mean, collabs are done here on a somewhat regular basis, and two writers are easy to sync. Clan wars are what's really impossible, tbh (and tbh I shoulda waited until I wasn't a newbie to try my clan war...that wasn't the greatest idea).

Anyhow, eventually I'd be down for a 2v2.

I have the exact same thing.

Overall this would be a very fun thing to do if you could cooperate with your co-author well, but it would be rather difficult.

I'm probably going to try to find someone whose writing style just *clicks* with mine, but I'd be willing to experiment with anyone that wants to try such a thing.

Well good luck there.

I would down for being a teammate with pretty much anyone
