There is an island called Cloudfell, an island where a simple-minded creature managed to come across something interesting. An ancient artefact, a prototype weapon designed by the civilisation that was once there. The device latched onto the creature and pumped it full of energy. The thing grew, it got stronger. The area around it seemed to become an arena in its favour. It felt its biggest weakness melt away, replaced by a holographic red bar hovering right above its head. It felt itself energised, mind going crazy with a lust for battle, power coursing through its very being. Invigorating.
It’ll need more than one gladiator to take this bad boy down.
The Boss Battle event is a seasonal thing where up to four characters can enter. The goal: Take down the boss. You cannot do this by yourself, you cannot lone-wolf it. You must write your char co-operating with one or more of the other three entrants. When all battles are in, others will vote on which battle is the best. And if you win? Your character will become the next season’s boss.
Every time a boss is slain, their health bar depleted, the artifact seeks the next strongest. The winner will double in size, power and battle-lust pulsing through their minds. Their biggest weakness will vanish, replaced by a health bar that floats atop them, signalling the artifact’s integrity. The arena will shift into their ideal battleground. Everything will turn in their favour, so you’ll need to have some jolly co-operation in order to surpass them and achieve that power.
Details below.
Up to four people can join per season. A season would last about eight weeks. Two weeks to organise, four weeks to write, two weeks to vote.
If you have participated for two seasons, you have to sit out for two. If you’ve participated for one, you can sit out for one and come back the next.
The winner of the season doesn’t need to write for the next one, although I will talk to them about the arena, the ‘Bossening’ of their character. And if they want, they can write their boss character wrecking two or more of the entrants. This story wouldn’t be put up to vote, but hey. Who wouldn’t want to write their char, beefed up and OP, destroying other characters?
When your character becomes the boss, a few changes happen. One, it will double (or quadruple) in size and quadruple in strength, though its speed will also be halved. If your char has a lot of abilities, only two or three would be focused upon, for the sake of balance. (Yeah, there’s gonna be SOME balance here.)
Oh, and your biggest weakness vanishes. Instead, you get a health bar that floats atop your head. People can deal direct damage to your character’s weaker areas to affect it, and they can try to attack the artefact directly for critical damage. Though, where that artefact is would change per boss.
A side-effect of the artefact and its location is that it actually traps the boss within this sizeable arena, but as soon as the boss is created, the arena will change and warp to fit them. Example: For Handyman, it would be a forest, with a fog above it to lower light levels. The boss cannot consciously control this environment, it is set when they are formed. Meaning it can hinder them just as much as it can hinder you, so use it.
When a boss transformation is sorted out, an environment will be discussed and set. These environments are best when open and outside. There ought to be enough details to set the theme of a scene, but not enough to restrict players. At least, not too much.
The first boss would be Handy, but after that, it’s all about who wins.
This is just a proposal currently, of course.
