The twin blades of Drakmar:
The twin blades of Drakmar are silvered weapons forged on the pearl anvil and cooled in the waters of the holy river of St Paul. Gifted to his mother by her father, Drakmar the guardian, they glow with celestial power unheard of by celestial and human alike. The blades are not the most powerful in existence, but have tremendous sharpness and integrity. Each blade is the length of a long dagger, double edged, and with a jagged indent in the centre. Think a trapezium cut out of the blade with the short side facing outwards. By catching enemy weapons in the centre of his blades, done by crossing his blades together and blocking enemy weapons in the indentation, Aurelius can destroy them by pulling outwards with the blades in a sweeping motion, shattering their weapon to shards.
Master of the Sacrosanct
Eric is the most powerful wielder of light magic known to walk the Earth as of present. His powers allow him to manipulate the light around him, using it to empower his attacks or movement, or more often to use as a projectile, and to a limited extent other forms of EMR.
How exactly this ability works, no one knows; The secrets of the exact workings of the sacrosanct were lost to celestials after the collapse of the tower of Babel. But none can deny the potency of his abilities, no matter how they work.
Eric has several ways in which he can utilise his power and control over light. These include;
- Empowerment: By channelling light into his attacks or movement, Aurelius can increase his strength or the speed of his attacks, sometimes both. An empowered punch can reach strengths that can cause the collapse of a concrete wall, and a strike from his blade can slice a steel pole in two. When speeding up his abilities, he normally only reaches speeds of 200m/s. Theoretically he could reach light speed by channelling enough energy to his legs, but the dangers of opposing force or friction mean he never exceeds his normal speed, unless circumstances permitted him to go faster (they never do). Also important to note, the greater the empowerment, the more energy he consumes.
- Air Dashing: when in the air, empowering his wings allows him to glide or fly at higher speeds than normal, with restrictions as above.
- Angelfall: by spinning himself in mid-air, empowering his legs and wings, and then diving, Eric can unleash a massive shockwave upon landing, knocking back and damaging enemies in a radius determined by the distance he dived.
- Divine Slash: by swinging his blade in an arc, Eric can unleash a planar projectile of light that slices anything it its path. It is a thin projectile that travels in a straight line, and rends anything it comes into contact with. The lighter the material, the more the light wave rends.
- Blinding Barrier: by channelling the light into a shield, he can stop or block any projectiles or attacks headed his way. The shield costs no energy to maintain, but instead taxes Eric energy when he tries to block something; the stronger the blow, the higher the energy cost.
- Holy Globe: Eric channels light into a ball in his palm, then launches it at his foes. He can form three types of light globes. Ranked by energy costs (lowest to highest), these include small projectiles that Eric can create several of at any one time, a medium-sized ball of light which explodes spherically, and a similar-sized globe which casts energy outwards in a two-dimensional planar explosion similar to divine slash.
- Light Beam: by channelling his powers for a short time, he can unleash a powerful lance of light, which punches through anything in its path. Even his weakest lance can travel 100m through 2.5cm of steel plate. The energy cost is based around the size and strength of the lance.
- Blinding Flash: expending a comparatively small cost of energy, Eric produces a small but potent burst of light, which disorients or temporarily blinds his foes in a small area. His most powerful burst can burn out the retinas of all foes in a 10m radius.
- Interference: by manipulating surrounding radio waves, Eric increases the amount of white noise in the area, effectively interrupting or interfering with radio communications within a set radius, similarly interrupting any telepathic abilities in an area that use radio waves. Setting up this interference is a low cost ability. Maintaining it however, that’s a different matter.
- Heating Hands: by channelling microwave and infrared radiation, Eric effectively saves the $400 he had to spend on a new microwave.
- Candleflame: by channelling light into a small globe set in his palm, Eric effectively creates a makeshift torch, which he is then able to use in darkened spaces.
- Ultraviolet Shielding: a passive affect from his control of the sacrosanct, Eric is immune to all UV radiation. Thus making him immune from sunburn. Thus saving him $500 in annual sunscreen costs. And giving him a smooooth pale complexion to boot.
- Radiation Burst: Eric never uses this ability unless he absolutely needs to; for the cost of a good portion of his energy he can unleash small but lethal bursts of gamma and/or x-ray radiation. This is only ever a desperation move.
- Living Conduit; in what many describe as his final move, Eric channels light and EMR radiation from the sun, giving him near unlimited power. The channelling process lasts for eight minutes, as he has to gather enough energy to give him the full effects, basically meaning he almost never uses this ability unless he knows he’ll need it beforehand. When he finishes channelling, light bolts down and strikes him, and he immediately gains massive power bursts; his eyes turn completely white and start to glow. His hands or blades are always glowing with energy, he gains the ability to levitate at least 10cm off the ground, and for a 3cm radius around him, his body starts emitting deadly gamma radiation bursts. His attacks and movements are all empowered for the duration, often around 2-10 minutes, depending on if he earths his powers or not. He suffers no deviation to his personality, and is left with no ill effects after he exits this state. However, he then has to wait a month before using it again; the affect of having so much energy coursing through his veins may cause catastrophic cellular mutation.
Scion of an Angel
Eric’s unusual lineage gives him wings and the ability to fly. Needless to say, it’s one of his favourite abilities.
He gains wings that jut out from his shoulderblades and have a roughly 6.5m wingspan. Because of his lineage as a nephillim, the wings act as natural extensions of his self; when he shields himself, he doesn’t neglect his wings. He can also fold them up at will to make access to certain areas easier, but they don’t just disappear when he does this, they remain folded up on his back.
The stone of Mindwar
One of his strangest artefacts is the stone wrapped around his neck in silver thread. Few opponents know what to make of it until it is far too late.
A gift from his mother, the angel of mind, physical contact allows him to at will read people’s greatest emotional troubles. Fear, loss, and hate are not safe from its scrutiny.
By touching an opponent’s flesh with his right hand and then touching the stone with his left, Eric gains the ability to gleam insights from people’s minds. He has rough control over what he sees, but sometimes, depending on his mental state or level of exhaustion, may see something else entirely. Importantly, the target has no control over what Eric sees, and is forced to relive whatever memories Eric digs up.
This is the only way this ability can be utilised. It isn't that usable during the middle of a duel or a fight.
Also important to note, the stone is not able to be wielded simply by him. Anyone can use the stone passively, sometimes to look into Eric's mind whilst in a fight. If this happens, Eric may stop fighting out of shock; he hates anyone having access to his memories, and he may choose to give up and run off in the case of this event.
Weaknesses:
Robotic Reaction:
Because of his less than happy history with robots, Eric acts very volatile when fighting people who are part robot or android. He will either focus and not listen to reason, stop fighting and start whimpering instead, or will turn into a mad murder machine.
Glass Cannon:
Eric’s average constitution means that even niggling or light injuries can slow him down somewhat and prevent him from fighting properly. Though he often presses on by sheer will, it saps his stamina in its place.
Thin-Skinned Wings:
Eric’s wings are obviously one of the least armoured parts of his body. Though he is very good at shielding them from attack, it only takes minor injuries to turn him into a gliding warrior, and moderate injuries to leave him grounded.
Angelic Nobility:
Because of his strong moral code, Eric often throws himself into the line of fire to protect other people, and suffers self-doubt when he can’t save someone. He can be quickly distracted by throwing an innocent into danger.
Ying and Yang:
Eric’s light abilities are extremely effective against shadow magic, but he is also vulnerable to the same discipline. He is thus highly vulnerable to abilities that use darkness or shadow magic.
Stamina Drain:
Because Eric’s mana pool is linked to his physical stamina, using his abilities causes fatigue accumulation. Eric can fight at full strength from twenty minutes before collapsing from exhaustion. ‘Full Strength’ refers to him using magic for that entire time. Average fighting time is therefore around 30 minutes given how much he uses his abilities; though small rests or bursts of flight can give him a little more stamina.
Overconfidence:
Eric tends to be supremely confident in his own abilities, and often draws early conclusions about his enemies. Rapid changes in fighting style or unexpected abilities can disorient him and cause him to screw up.
Limited Reach:
Eric’s fighting style relies on getting in close to an enemy because of the short length of his blades. As a result, an enemy that is skilled in close quarters combat with a longer reach weapon (swords, spears, tridents, long axes, halberds, etc.), can keep him at arms reach and wear him down.
