If you read the first post, you can see that I pointed out that what his music is, is not Hip Hop.

Then explain why it's categorized under the genre in every music source that holds his album. He's hip-hop, of course. But not the kind we know and love. He's fake hip-hop.

If you want hip-hop that's fun and gets you dancing, listen to some of the stuff from old school artists like Doug E. Fresh. Back before bling and jizzing on sleeping hoes was considered something to dance to.

What the ****.... I am listening to Slick Rick ft. Doug E Fresh right now..."Lodi Dodi" :S

I don't even know how he can even be classified under Hip Hop, all this miscategorization pisses me off.

As bad as he is, it's still part of the genre. His music contains the elements of the genre: A rhythmic set of rhyming verses accompanied by an instrumental track. Here's an example: Consider the definition of music. You can bang on a keyboard and produce completely abohorent crap, but it's still considered music since the definition of music is the arrangement of sounds expressing an ideal.

It's all about loose fitting definitions, man. And since hip-hop isn't a genre where content plays in the factor of classification, that means Soulja boy is part of the genre. Unfortunately.

Meh. I still won't classify him as Hip Hop, I just can't do it.

Well, he is just in it for the money, I guess I lose this debate =.=

Let's change it over?

Do you think the state of Hip Hop should be decided by the Mainstream, or the entire thing in general? Because many people believe "Hip Hop is Dead" because of what they see on TV, and hear on the radio, but if you think about it, Hip Hop is a reflection of the people, and it's only as dead as you let it be.

The elements of Hip Hop are generally less famous.

Graffiti is easily removed, Breakdancing was traded in for cranking that, DJing isn't famous anymore, and MCing...well look at it now. Even beatboxing is pretty low-key now.

But I feel that it is still there, and that Hip Hop will stay alive as long as I keep listening to it. I used to be annoyed by all the mainstream shit we hear today, and I still try to find reasoning aside popularity for why it is famous, but alas, it's all gimmicks.

A song like "Make it Rain" or "We Takin' Over" is stereotypical mainstream stuff, but you can see why people liked it. It has a somewhat nice instrumental, and the vocals are just there to keep it from being empty.

Eh, I am just rambling. Anyway, do you really think the state of Hip Hop is even damaged, or is it the same, but it's fame shifted..?

You meant Gangsta Rap, Snap, crunk, and Hip Hop should be separated. =.=

I dunno, I mean, Dr.Dre and NWA are responsible for making the Gangsta Rap genre of Hip Hop prevail, but in the end I actually listen to Dre, the beat is nice.

I dont care if people like Souljaboy as long as he doesnt come back and shove music down our throats like back at ChromeArrow.
And C!D no, all rap and hip-hop is essentially the same genre so it shouldn't be separated.

"Rapping (Also known as emceeing, MCing, spitting, or just rhyming) is the rhythmic spoken delivery of rhymes and wordplay, one of the elements of hip hop music and culture."

No, they're not really seperated. Rapping is the vocal style that is hip-hop's claim to fame. Hip-hop is sometimes referred to as "rap" as a nickname for the genre since the style is what the genre is best known for. So they're really not different. So I don't know why people keep referring to them as two different genres.

I know, that's what I was saying. I pointed out that it's really just a nickname for the genre "hip-hop", not a whole different genre on its own. Along with the fact that it's the lyrical style that the genre holds, but has been adopted by many other genres like rock and reggae.
