Lemme clarify. I was agreeing with you on your point that rap isn't a genre, but the vocal delivery that hip-hop is known for. Then I went on to say that they aren't really seperated because, in light of the fact that hip-hop's claim to fame is the art of "rapping", it is often nicknamed as rap. That's why the many subgenres of hip-hop contain the word "rap" ("gansta rap" instead of "gansta hip-hop").
