First off, like I said this isn't about Green Day, this is about the song it'self. And let's get this outta the way I don't care if you hate Green Day, I just want to hear some people's veiws on the song. (but some fellow Green Day supporters would be nice, I know there aren't many on here)

Anyways, I was looking up the song American Idiot for some reason, I can't remember why and there was a huge list of replies to it, some people were dissing, some people were agreeing, so I posted my own long ass reply.


First of all this is an excellent song, mostly because of it's lyrics. Some American's are just that. . . Idiots. I'm an American myself, am I proud to be one, I wouldn't really say that, but I do support our soldiers, it's not their fault they are forced to head out to Iraq and be killed, I support them for the soldiers themselves and their families. America is one ****ed up country no doubt about it, but compared to some countries in say Africa or the Middle East we're not so bad. I do on the other hand think it's completely rediculous how all we get on the news is more shit about Celebs. and Sports. (Not meaning to pick on Africa) But I just watched a television special on the diamond wars in Seirra Leone. It was terrible bloody and unholy stuff, but I had never heard about it before, and I was actually mad at myself and the media for being so kept in the dark. This happed like ten years ago, and yet practically no one knew anything about it, because our media is so goddamn censored and doesn't give a **** about some real world issues. You flip to the world news you get shit about a pro football player being injured or about Britiany Spear's latest breakdown, I don't give a **** about some dumb shit blonde who's a complete has-been singer. That's the main thing I despise about America, our media, and all that comes through in this song. Another thing I'm sick of is how goddamn politically correct everyone has to be these days. There's always gonna be racism, there's always gonna be predjudice, that's not gonna change, deal with it. Like the fact that people shouldn't say "Merry Christmas" anymore, What-The-****? So what if you celebrate another religeon, I'm an athiest myself, but am I gonna freak on someone who wishes me a Merry Christmas, no! I'll wish them one back and go about my day, so I don't believe in Christianity, why the **** would I make a huge scene about it. People need to chill the **** out, get a little more backbone instead of being offended all the fricken time, and this goes for everyone in the world. And on a side note, not all Americans are dicks. Some of you saying that American's think they're better than everyone else and that we just want to make all these other countries look bad. I don't think I'm better than anyone, and if your country has it's own problems don't whine about how terrible America is, fix them yourselves. We have plenty of problems too. So some of you stop just completely dissing America cause that's how the rest of the world perceives us, you don't see me dissing your country. American Idiot is a genius song, it points out our worst flaws in an awesome way, a kickass song.

Feel free to reply to this, agree with it, partially agree with it, or completely shove it in my face and tell me I'm a faggot, I don't care, but I just wanted to voice my own opinion on this.

It gets the point across in a more blunt, direct way, as opposed to watered down pseudo-socio-political-ness.

Besides, there are plenty of bands, especially early punk bands, that have written far better songs satirizing Americans, and for the most part, they actually stand behind what they say. Unlike Green Day which is now basically just a poppy, wannabe punk band.

I like some of Green Day's older stuff, and a song or two off of American Idiot but I'm not a huge fan.

I prefer old Green Day over new. Much prefer.

I'd be interested to see a list of points made in American Idiot about why Americans are bad.

**** america, yeah fight the power, everythings censored, I hate being an american despite the fact that with the millions and millions of dollars i produced off of this song i could easily move to another country, yet i stay here because i'm a ****ing shallow asshole now that im famous.

They don't mean anything that they say, because obviously if they were so opposed to america that they wrote a song about how much America sucks ass then they would have moved away by now. Only fourth graders first experiencing rebellion listen to american idiot and think they are so deep because of how they actually oppose the system. where is greenday now? Failing because they wrote american idiot and sparked the whole "rebellion" of retarded kids everywhere.
