Jeremy.
SecuRom installs itself into the computers Kernal (Ring 0), and installs another part into its normal application ring, also known as ring 3. Since the main program is inside the Kernal, it can do practically what it wishes. It interrupts and messes around with programs such as Nero, and other burning/ripping/mounting programs. It also messes with Task Manager. It removes itself and other parts from the processes menu, meaning you cant stop it, even in safe mode.

SecuRom, as it is programmed to do, will run checks on your CD's, to see if their legit. They force your DVD drives and CD drives to do so, in which case, they are not designed to do. They become instable and crash.

If you have any sort of program it thinks is a pirating program, it prevents the game from loading, mentioning some sort of emulation error. Forcing a honest buying into cracking his own game. WHICH THEY BOUGHT.

There has been cases of Anti-Virus's being shut down and stopped by SecuRom, as part of secuRom is technically a rootkit, as it is inside a part, it shouldnt be.

There are other things that SecuRom has been accused of doing, just on the programs assumption, like "Oh, this person has 2 Disk drives. THey must be a pirate!" and stopping the drives from working."

The only way to remove it known to me is to do a re-format of your disk.

Now that is the kind of stuff which is completely shit. But then again it is all because of piracy that developers and publishers feel that they need to do such radical things.

I got my spore demo 100% legally and it's total screwed up my spare computer.

Okay that explains a lot. My spare computer won't let my Mp3 connect anymore. It did something to it because won't even let my Mp3 connect to any other computer. It now only lets it connect to my laptop.

Does it wreak the disk or does it just make the CD player crash?

There have been reports of broken disks, but, i don't know if they mean the actually disks or the disk drives.

Im guessing it screw the drive, or it may somehow do a lock on the CD.
I don't know.

Steyene. That is information off numerous sites. So much for trying to stop piracy. They are practically encouraging it. The pirates get a better deal.

Wrong you don't own anything.

You bought a license agreement, nothing more. The disk, case, manual and all the information hat is on the disk is the property of the developer.

You bought the right to use it.

That's complete and utter bullshit. If this were true, then the company would be able to legally reclaim the disc, manual, etc., but if they were to try that, it would be illegal for them to do so.

I don't know where you get that. I think you are confusing copyright and actual ownership. Sure you can't duplicate it, but that doesn't mean you don't own anything. You own that copy of the game, and the game developer can have no say in what you do with it on your own computer. If you want to make every single character in Oblivion into a giant penis with crabs, you can do that. (Your warranty would be void, but that's another story.)

The issue is distribution. Copyright is what prevents you from distributing copies of the game without the developer's permission. If you do so, you are legally claiming to be the originator of the product, even if you don't claim to be, and even if you don't make a profit.

Nope no its not, they can get the disk back whenever they wish.

Technically it is actually illegal for people to sell on their games on things like Ebay, as, I have said before they don't own anything but the license and aren't a legal distributor.

Oh? I have never read THAT in a EULA before, and I've read a few EULAs. Give me ONE EULA that says that the developer or publisher can reclaim a legally aquired copy of their game.

You own the license to use the game

Wow, just restate your point and leave it at that. Real mature.

I can do that too:
