Hello, I am rather new to Action Scripting, i just started about 2 or 3 days ago and i need some serious help! I apologize if this is extremely n00by but as i have discovered, One cannot mix and match Tutorials. I would like to make a top down shooter were you, The Character have a gun and your in a 'Box' map and enemies spawn from all directions. So far i have 8 way movement and facing the direction of travel. I can change the speed of travel and etc, but that is all. I have attempted to implement enemies, Walls (to stop the person moving out of the 'box') bullets, health, but nothing seems to work. If someone has a tut, i would be more than happy to read it. Or if any one has any help on any of these elements. Also please be detailed because as i said before i am a n00b at flash. Thanks a lot!

yo kurejsepi hey man. yeh this is a good place to find help. just wait for the right person to see this. it looks. ok at the moment. considering you are learning. although i cant understand it... but yeh haha anyway.

You're not going to conveniently find a tutorial that details every aspect of the game you're trying to make. Not to mention, every tutorial will explain a different method with none of them being necessarily the "correct" or only way of doing things.

If you're serious about learning actionscript, I suggest being patient, putting your game on hold for now, and getting a basic grasp of the language first. I always recommend the tutorials on Actionscript.org, they have some well done tutorials covering the very basics, to some more advanced code. Learn some basics about working with variables, what the different functions do, and how to manipulate objects and move things around and all that stuff.

But more important than just following the tutorials and cutting and pasting random bits of script from them is LEARNING FROM THEM, and trying to understand WHY the code you were given does what it does. Because sooner or later you're going to have to write your own code. You will NEVER build a decent game by taking other people's actionscript from a mottled assortment of tutorials.

That's probably not what you wanted to hear, but that's the best advice I can give you, or anybody who is trying to learn to make games in flash.

Well, I started to make a game a couple days ago using tutorials that was a top down shooter, and using a bunch of different tuts, and combining them together and putting togethter bits and pieces of code worked for me, because i worked a lot with that code, and figured out how it all works. I agree, the Pirate's tutorial is amazing. It completely changed my life, got me the big promotion at work, and scored me the girl of my dreams. Overall, I basically owe any and all present or future happiness to the reading of that wondrous text.

Thanks, I was what i was expecting to hear, but unfortunately i don't really have the time to take this slow as this is a School project, i am typing the code, and fixing the errors my self so i am learning as i am copying other people's code. This is not conventional, but as i mentioned earlier, i have to move quickly. I do appreciate the advice, and i will have a look at The Pirate's Tut. Thanks!
