It is later proven he rotoscoped the whole animation, and then a whole raid of people attack him...

It's on the first page. Which means that he did lie if it was rotoscoped.

I've traced movie clips before and they come out just like this, wobbly but smooth with incredibly attention to depth. This was traced, not very well either :/
