This contains spoilers about The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man.
Two days ago, I watched The Incredible Hulk with Edward Norton for the first time, and just like with Iron Man, I was blown away.
When I finished the film, and Robert Downey Junior had his appearance as Tony Stark, I shit my pants (Even though I knew it was coming)
Immediately, I started wondering what the lineup for the next few Marvel movies would be, and whether Captain America would be included in the Avengers film (Can't do Avengers without him, IMHO.)
Just a few minutes ago, I finished watching the movie again, and I dirtied ANOTHER pair of boxers realizing that Stark mentioned a super soldier project, and that earlier in the film, when Ross was talking to Blonsky about the super soldier program, he mentioned that it was started back in "Dubya Dubya II".
Then it hit me: He was talking about the project that spawned Captain America.
So now we know two things.
1) Captain America will likely be included in the Avengers film
2) His origin story will probably take place in World War II, like in the comics.
This brings me to my next speculation.
To just toss aside the chance to make huge profits, I strongly doubt that Marvel won't make a standalone Captain America movie. Inevitably, it will be an origin story taking place during WWII, so expect to see a Captain America film in the next 3 years, and expect it to involve him fighting the Red Skull and Hitler. In order to have him be a part of the Avengers line-up, I think they will end the movie with him stopping a bomb and falling into the Arctic Ocean and winding up frozen in a block of ice, then in a post-credits sequence having him found by S.H.I.E.L.D. unfrozen in modern times, just like in the Ultimates universe.
This will tie in well with the reveal of Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D at the end of Iron Man and with Tony Stark approaching Ross about the team he is assembling. (Obviously the Avengers.)
What I can't wait for is the reveal of Captain America during the Avengers film. Bringing him into the modern day will be an interesting plot, like Austin Powers, but less comedic.
This is all speculation, but I'm dead certain now that Iron Man, The Hulk, and Captain America will be int he Avengers line-up.
Now, to end this Wall-o-Text, I'll say one last thing:
Marvel making Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk themselves rather than giving the rights to another studio was the smartest move in comic-to-movie adaptation history. No studio would have the balls to do what Marvels doing by tying all their films together like in the comics. I have to say, I'm excited about the future of Marvel Comics-based film adaptations.
