It is infintely long. Think of it like this:

Image

It's like a tunnel being infintely long, and it's getting infinetly smaller.

Something being infinitely long is impossible, though. That image isn't an example of something being infinitely long, because it only has 3 or 4 frames, then starts over.

I agree, how does that prove me wrong?

Because then it is not infinite. It is merely an extremely long process.

how do you know it's impossible for something to be infinelty long?

Obviously the animation itself isn't infinetly long, it's just a demonstration of the concept.

How is it not infinite though? If you keep going to smaller and smaller increments, like the quarks of quarks, then doesn't it go on forever? Where does it stop at?

When you cant go any further.

If I whip out my penis, is it infinitely long?

How can you not go any further? if you keep going to smaller and smaller things Atoms -> whatever comes here -> whatever comes here-> Etc
then how can it stop, isn't there always something smaller?

It isn't infinitely long, because it has an end, it just restarts when it stops. Think of it as a movie on loop: The movie isn't infinitely long, because it has a beginning and an end, but it just keeps restarting when it does end.

Because it just does, okay.

Also, I'm sad my dick isn't infinitely long, I'm stuck with the good old 8.4 inches

I'm not talking about the gif...I'm talking about molecules and then atoms and then whatever comes after that, etc.

^ Srs.

Why would it stop? And how is that not traveling through infinite space?

Ah, you're talking about the "infinite reduction in scale" idea.

If you take a crumb, and divide it in half, you still only have a crumb, no matter how many times you reduce it's scale.

Well, the problem there is that it's not the case: If you divide a crumb in half enough times, you will eventually get down to an atom (Lets say a hydrogen atom for the sake of ease), and then you can no longer call it a crumb. If you divide a hydrogen atom in "half" (Actually into 3 parts), you get an electron, a proton, and a neutron. What you have now is not matter but energy, and thus it is indivisible.

Interestingly enough, the word "atom" means "indivisible", which is obviously not the case, as we now know.

But what makes up energy? And what makes up that? And that? It doesn't just stop, does it?

I'm not talking about dividing anything. I'm just saying that you can maginfy a crumb untill it's only an atom, then you can keep magnifying even after that, for the rest of eternity.

Lol I was just about to reply with, "its not reduction, its magnification."
