Meshuggah.
It's a bit of an acquired taste, but if you listen to a couple songs, you'll be hooked.

Dragonforce are shit, but why Sevenfold? They are amazing. Give reason.
I can't see a reason to say they are good by any means.. and they no longer have a drummer anyways.

there's just something about elitist metalheads that never fail to make me laugh.
metal as a genre kind of inherently sucks, there's not much point in trying to categorize which subgenres suck less.

If I was elitist I wouldn't listen to Jack Johnson or The White Stripes. I have a friend who is an elitist metalhead and I agree it can be funny to hear what he has to say. I just fail to see the point in any metalcore band. They are all the same. I still to this day I can't understand how anyone could say metal sucks if they truly have given it a chance, there is always some metal genre or metal band that a person could like.

easy, killer.
I have friends that are metalheads so I've listened to a lot of different styles, and I understand how much of a generalization it is, but metal is just musically boring.
it seems like the people that listen to metal listen to it because they like energetic music. which is why when someone tries to say someone's favorite groups "fail" it just comes off as elitist. it's all primarily the same overdriven power-chord blastbeat stuff that's been rehashed over and over again anyways.
I'm probably generalizing a bit too much but based off of the huge amount of metal I've been exposed to I can safely say that most of it is predictable and boring. I'm not really sure why you of all people chose to mock me for that, 2-D, you've never seemed like one to defend metal yourself.

A lot of symphonic power metal is absolutely sublime. Look at Nightwish (before the new vocalist). You could make a fairly strong case for it being a totally separate genre though, closer to classical and opera than the kind of screaming crashing fast-paced stuff that is normally associated with metal.
