CCTV camera specifically. Should they be in use? Are they an infringement on our rights? Are they there for our protection or to opress us?

No, the reason is that my dad owns a security company, so he would loose money, which is annoying.
Furthermore, it is illegal to have CCTV in toilets/changing rooms, so I don't see how it is infringing on people's rights.
It is to see who stole what, It is a great detterent for burglars, and It keeps a watchful eyes over our cars as-well.

I agree, but do you think it's going to far to have CCTV cameras with speakers attached and a guy with a microphone monitoring them? He tells people to pick up their litter. I don't think there's anything wrong with it, but some people evidently do:
Quote from SchwaAt least we do not fear breaking the law for fear that it shall be caught on camera, like many people in the UK worry about with your exceedingly socialist government.

If you have got nothing to hide, then why should you care?

I have my privacy, I dont want to be monitored 24/7 by a person I dont even know.

omg I just dicovered a line of reasoning. I'm so proud.
What if you do have something to hide but it isn't illegal, ie. you're secretly gay and having an affair with a man behind your wife's back and you get seen on CCTV and a corrupt policeman decides to blackmail you?
That's the only argument against that I can find.
@DefinE: most of the cameras aren't monitored until there's a crime, and those that are are monitored badly. Do you have any idea how boring it is to stare at a TV screen for a day where the picture never changes?

The US are the brainwashed ones.
I can give you thousands of examples from history through to present day.
Shall I start with Joe McCarthy?

Then debate me. Give me an argument, Yank, and we'll determine which side of the Atlantic gets brainwashed most.

Yes, because we're the ones who like passing bills that only make us more vulnerable, and we're the ones that just LOVE being filmed while being mugged because we can't defend ourselves.

What? I don't give a shit what anyone looks like, how the hell can you relate that at all? Who the **** are you?

Yes, because Joe McCarthy is an obvious metaphor for the average American citizen.

There's plenty of good examples if you go back through the records. "The police" was good, if brief. "Assault Rifles" was epic. There was a nice abortion one where I got fairly hammered. The last Evolution one too.Quote from DefinEOh god not a debate war.

We are allowed to fight back in self-defence, same as you. We just aren't allowed to carry guns which makes us safer because then the muggers don't carry guns. Tell me, how many Americans were saved last year because a passer by had a gun? How many British people were killed last year because there was no one on hand with a gun? How many Americans were killed last year, despite there being people on hand with guns? How many Americans died last year when no one was there with a gun?
