The american media brainwashes the American society to look like a certain person, same with the english media. Its a form of brainwashing, before you debate I suggest you look up different contexts of the same thing. Who am I? Well, I dont know. I dont think thats a question anybody can answer, and for lack of an answer; I'll give you this. I am me. Expect trouble.

Quote from StrelokYes, because Joe McCarthy is an obvious metaphor for the average American citizen.
No, Joe McCarthy had his influence on your society and brainwashed a whole generation, the effects are still apparent today.
Nowadays it's call "Al Qaeda are gonna kill us, they're all controlled by Osama Bin Laden". You're sheep to what your President tells you.
Let me tell you something - all these terror attacks, the people don't know eachother. It's a movement, they're all unrelated.
Why ais your country so bent on catching Bin Laden? He doesn't do anything anymore, he's toying with you by sending video tapes. Britain learned this long ago.
And now you've generalised a whole religion due to Al Qaeda.
That's being brainwashed, kid.

Certainly is, DefinE.

Why is your country so petrified of terrorism, Strelok? The odds of dying in a terrorist attack are minute. The ammount of American who die as a direct result of MacDonalds, however, is gigantic. The difference is the outrage factor. Terrorist attacks look bigger and so you become terrified of them. Your government has manipulated this fear into two wars, both massively devastating for the countries invaded. And you still re-elected the guy behind it!

Oh Jesus Christ, I thought you british people would have realized that this isn't the majority opinion after we elected Obama.
But whatever man.
Also, McCarthy is considered in history to be an unfavorable person, McCarthyism is taught to be bad. So yes, he was an effective propogandist and he lost support when people started realizing how much of a fool he was.
I don't see how this has any relevance to your argument.

You elected George Bush twice.
And you only elected Barack Obama because he's black.

Quote from ZedThere's plenty of good examples if you go back through the records. "The police" was good, if brief. "Assault Rifles" was epic. There was a nice abortion one where I got fairly hammered. The last Evolution one too.
We are allowed to fight back in self-defence, same as you. We just aren't allowed to carry guns which makes us safer because then the muggers don't carry guns. Tell me, how many Americans were saved last year because a passer by had a gun? How many British people were killed last year because there was no one on hand with a gun? How many Americans were killed last year, despite there being people on hand with guns? How many Americans died last year when no one was there with a gun?
I don't think you realize, I'll give you a story:
A 56 year old man is walking down the street, two young adults pull him into an alleyway (Hidden from CCTV), one of them has a knife. (You see, even if it IS illegal they still get them. Because they're criminals. They do things illegally.)
Now, the old man is carrying a snub-nose .357 revolver, which he has a permit for and everything. He draws his gun which makes them run off, without any violence (some 98.7% of all conflicts like this end with the victim only DRAWING his gun.). The old man walks home and tells his wife.
Now, this isn't recorded because the old man didn't call the police. Why? Because nothing happened, he wouldn't report a "not-mugging." This is why the media always portrays carrying a gun as a bad thing, because there IS no way to measure just how many they've saved.
If you have any logic at all you would just realize this already.

If English media does it the same as American media then why the **** did you bring it up? HOW THE **** IS IT RELATED AT ALL?

I call bullshit right here. First you quote a statistic, then you state why you can't get statistics about this. There are few imaginable logical flaws greater than this.

its just out in public, if you aren't doing anything wrong then there is nothing to hide right?
its just in certain buildings, if you aren't doing anything wrong then there is nothing to hide right?

And yet those "would-be muggers" would go and try and rob someone else, no?
They didn't get caught. It's worth one person getting mugged and the criminals being reported and convicted than loads of would-be muggings where they don't get convicted.
And why wouldn't the criminals have legal guns that they registered?

Quote from UstartinYou elected George Bush twice.

The entire democratic party and the media turned against the ridiculous fear mongering of George Bush. If I'm not mistaken the democratic party also has a majority in Congress.
We were turned astray by nationalism, a terrorist attack and effective propaganda. This point of argument only would have worked a few years ago.
It's old news, come up with something new.
Also, Cosmonaut hit the nail on the head.

Ah. The old slippery slope argument. The thing is, if people spot it they'll vote out the government trying to enforce it, and if they don't notice/care then there's nothing wrong with it.

More government control is generally a bad thing.
And no matter how much faith you (or me or anyone) has in their democracy the people have a say, but not a hand.
