Anyone ever experienced this? It happened to me last night when I realized I was dreaming and I wanted to force myself awake because the it felt weird knowing I was dreaming and when my room materialized in front of me, I was able to look around, but my body was frozen in spot for three seconds before I was finally able to move. Very freaky.

Yes it's happened a few times to me and I can tell you that it is pretty scary at the time it happens especially if it lasts more than a few seconds. One time I woke up from a dream where somebody was sneaking up behind me and as I tried to sit up in my bed to check what was there, my body was stuck in place. It feels really uncomfortable like your mind wants your body to move but your body is simply too tired to budge and your mind starts freaking out because you feel trapped.

Usually though it lasts no more than 10-15 seconds and I fall back asleep within a minute or two of it happening.

Edit:
I read the article after I wrote the above and this would explain that feeling I had of someone creeping up on me. The way it describes it fits it perfectly.

"In addition, the paralysis state may be accompanied by terrifying hallucinations (hypnopompic or hypnagogic) and an acute sense of danger.[10] Sleep paralysis is particularly frightening to the individual due to the vividness of such hallucinations.[11] The hallucinatory element to sleep paralysis makes it even more likely that someone will interpret the experience as a dream, since completely fanciful, or dream-like, objects may appear in the room alongside one's normal vision."

That's one of those things that I want to experience because it sounds weird as ****, but if I ever actually experience it, I'll shit bricks.

Yeah, my friend had one that lasted two minutes once, but when I had it, it ended really quick and like you, I was able to fall asleep really quick afterwards.

I wonder, does it usually occur in the middle of the night or in the morning when you naturally wake up..

It's happened to me at different times of night, sometimes the early morning but usually it happens after I come out of a deep sleep or dream.

Oh and by the way everything on your body is paralyzed except your eyes so that means you cant yell out to anyone (trust me you start to get desperare and yell out but you cant).

I've had it a few times, sort of. I could move still, but raising my arms were like raising fifty pound weights.

Sleep paralysis is a by product of your brain shutting down your movement abilities so you don't thrash around when you sleep.

So yes, you can breathe.

I had this happen to me over the summer while I was trying to lucid dream (never did D: ) and I thought it was cool as heck :D
