You fix the choppiness by saving it properly (frame delay 6 or frames per second 16) and keeping the spacing small or appropriately eased. Poorly executed means that your animation lacked basics, whilst having a reasonably good idea behind it. To make it better, learn the basics, do some tests, and look at it again in one month's time.
