Sunn O))) get way too much hate from hardcore drone/doom fans. Sunn O))) are pretty much a slightly inferior version of Earth (which are heralded as one of the best of the genre). If you don't like Sunn O))), chances are ambient metal/drone doom isn't your thing at all.

For death metal fans, has anyone heard of Timeghoul? I've been listening to their demo Tumultuous Travelings a lot again... It's classic stuff. I wonder why they never became big.

almost every band that was mentioned is mainstream. slipknot is not good metal.

some favorites that come to mind are opeth, lamb of god, psychostick, a day of pigs, high on fire, and pantera (i guess there a little mainstream sorry)

I totally agree, deathcore and metalcore sicken me to no end.

Does anyone here listen to Ulcerate? Extremely good technical death metal. I highly recommend Of Fracture and Failure.
