Adaptation+adaptation+adaptation+adaptation=Big adaptation.

If one specific group of orangutans is separated from another group for long enough, the two groups will eventually become unable to inter-breed because of the genetic differences. This means that these two groups are different species.

That's evolution, numbskull.

You mean speaciation?

Don't see what religion has to do with evolution. And those are apes, not monkeys.

And where in that article did it say that this was a skill aquired through imitation rather than the ape's own ingenuity?

Oh, and about genes not teaching you to make a spear:

No, these aren't the product of evolution, they're just the product of imitation!

That must be why they are able to do that even when spearated from others... of... their... species...

So who exactly is the spider imitating? Spider mothers don't look after their young. They leave them soon after the eggs hatch.

It is, it's just that people like Smashdood are awful at math and don't understand the way addition works.

3 posts in a row that all insult someone. Excellent.

EDIT: And this thread really should have ended after the first reply.

Its nice to see that I am not the only one who is getting irritated at Ash's constant elitism and general douchebaggery.

If anything, this just shows that primates have the ability to learn. Like we didn't already know that.

Now think that these monkeys will actually evolve into rational beings like we did!
It's not impossible, it's not even improbable! I think that in a few thousand years from now, those monkeys will have their own structure and will start to evolve properly.

The weird part is that we, as first evolving rational humans, would eventually have to live with them, and .. Well, i find it strange to imagine.

If evolution is real, why are there still monkeys. Is there anything lesser evolved than a monkey?

Glad you have some knowledge of biology, Gavel. /not sarcasm

Evolution (n)

2. c. Change in the genetic composition of a population during successive generations, as a result of natural selection acting on the genetic variation among individuals, and resulting in the development of new species.

Speciation (n)

The formation of new species as a result of geographic, physiological, anatomical, or behavioral factors that prevent previously interbreeding populations from breeding with each other.

The words are interchangable when refering to the formation of a new species. If a new species forms, you can call it speciation OR evolution, both terms apply.

I'll read 'ape' to avoid an argument.

The thing that a lot of people misunderstand is that humans didn't evolve from apes - the evolved from an ape-like ancestor. In the same way, apes evolved from a human-like ancestor. Apes are not our grandparents; they're our cousins.

Yes but how do we know that we're more advanced than monkies?

How are we any more evolved? Why would they evolve into something better? Is a human better than an ape?

I am well aware that calling you a douchebag doesn't invalidate your points, I am merely point out the fact that you are acting like a dickhead.

Anyway, you can't decide to interchange Speciation, they aren't equal terms and hence cannot be swapped like that. If A leads to B then A=/=B.

Speciation is almost an empirical test for evolution.

Your statement is correct in a universal context, but the terms ARE interchangable if we are just identifying what we are witnessing when we see the formation of a species. I am sure you must understand this simple concept, its not that hard.
