The whole 2012 thing came from this Mayan calendar that said in 2012 we were all fucked if I am correct...

But what ppl seem to forget to tell you is that the Mayans also believed their gods would protect them from the white man who wanted to take over their country... we all know how that went...

So why are we still talking about 2012?

Also...
The Mayan calender didn't account for Leap Years...
So, according to the Mayans...
The world should have ended seven months ago.

Actually we dont, no one knows why the central base of the mayan civilization collapsed, one of the only things we do know is that it wasnt spanish invasion. And I'm sure they didnt believe their gods would protect them from the white man, I dont think they even knew white people existed before the collapse. You're an idiot who is trying to sound smart, why dont you go back to bed? I'm sure its past your bed time.

From what I've read their solar year was 360 days anyway.
Also I'm pretty sure whoever calculated the mayan calendar versus western calendars factored in leap year. How stupid do you think people are?

"The Mayan calendar was particularly accurate for its time and place. We have already indicated above that the Mayan calendar was not as accurate as the Roman Julian calendar. When compared to the solar year, the Julian calendar had an error rate of 1 day every 128 years. The modern Gregorian calendar is substantially more accurate, with an error rate of 1 day every 3,300 years. In contrast, the Mayan calendar, which did not use any system of leap days, had an error rate of 1 day every 4 years when compared to the solar year." - source

They just didn't have the technology we do now to accurately measure the lunar cycles.

So, the Mayans, along with other civilizations in the surrounding regions who also used the same calendars, we're wrong. Plain and simple. Get over it.

Kitsune isn't saying the Mayan calender is accurate - he's saying that the people who counted up to the 2012 date will have also known it was accurate and taken that into account. The Mayan calender may have originally pointed to 2019.

Not that it' especially important.

first off, there are some people that believes Mayans as a civilization existed when the white man arrived, that's not true, Quik, Mayans civilization collapsed long before 1492, they left a cultural legacy to the Aztecs, and the Aztecs didn't believe their gods would save them from the white man, they thought Cortés was their god "Quetzalcoatl" whom they represented as a snake with feathers or a man with hair on his face (Aztecs were barefaced), the story tells Cortés had a beard, thats why they confused him.

Snane, I'm not sure which calendar are you talking about, i believe that information is about the Haab calendar, which aimed to calculate the solar year, but we are talking about the Large Count calendar, that's the one that "ends" at 21-12-2012, and the large count calendar isn't a solar calendar.

You mean the Long Count calendar. You're right, that is the one that "ends". I was just making a point on how inaccurate their calendars were. Because they did use many calendars for different purposes. At least 3 were being used to track cycles in the days/months/years, and they weren't even synchronized.

I didn't read much on the subject. Inform me how you know they weren't please.
