I saw this movie at the midnight release just for the hell of it. Half asleep, I wasn't that focused when the trailers started. But as soon as the movie came on, I was immediately captivated.
The film starts out with a series of interviews, similar to a documentary. It describes how the aliens first arrived on Earth. Smoothly and unnoticeably, it transforms into an actual story.
Both the writer and director did an amazing job with this film. No major stars, the only recognizable name was Peter Jackson who directed it, and still, amazing.
PLOT (http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809961221/details)
Thirty years ago, aliens made first contact with Earth. Humans waited for the hostile attack, or the giant advances in technology. Neither came. Instead, the aliens were refugees, the last survivors of their home world. The creatures were set up in a makeshift home in South Africa's District 9 as the world's nations argued over what to do with them.
Now, patience over the alien situation has run out. Control over the aliens has been contracted out to Multi-National United (MNU), a private company uninterested in the aliens' welfare -- they will receive tremendous profits if they can make the aliens' awesome weaponry work. So far, they have failed; activation of the weaponry requires alien DNA.
The tension between the aliens and the humans comes to a head when an MNU field operative, Wikus van der Merwe, contracts a mysterious virus that begins changing his DNA. Wikus quickly becomes the most hunted man in the world, as well as the most valuable -- he is the key to unlocking the secrets of alien technology. Ostracized and friendless, there is only one place left for him to hide: District 9.

Been waiting for ever for it. Neil Blonkamp and Peter Jackson set out to make a movie based on Halo, that didn't work out, so this is what they made. It's based on a short film Blonkamp had done earlier called Alive in Joburg:

Oh, and BTW, PETER JACKSON ISN'T THE ****ING DIRECTOR. Don't give him credit for Neil Blonkamp's work. PJ is just executive producer, and this film is Neil's first feature-length work. He deserves the credit, and needs it. His name is likely to become as synonymous with great science fiction as James Cameron if people credit him instead of PJ.

Yeah, I've been following this guy for awhile now. I really liked his work, and im interested to see what is to come next with him. More than anything, I would like to see a prequel/sequel to District 9.

Alive in Joburg kinda is a prequel. Kinda.
But after this, Neil's working on a new IP, not Halo or District 9.

I want a prequel about the aliens; how they got there, why are they like this, etc.
And a sequel about SPOILER ALERT what happens when the aliens return, 3 years after the events of District 9
What new IP is he working on?

Anybody see it? I just saw it. I thought it was ****ing amazing. My girlfriend absolutely hated it. She said it was terrible and the plot was stupid. right after it ended, everybody rushed out of the theater and nobody clapped. I don't think anybody else liked it, but I did. It made me sad lol. I can't wait for the sequel. They have to have a sequel. District 10? You know?

Based on district 9, it should be good.
I noticed the same thing. There was no clapping. I don't understand. It got an average of A-, why would people not clap or anything?
