So Americans are trying to modify the same economy that keeps them up and running?
I'm sorry, but I don't see that happening.

Quote from WtfSorry, I don't quite get it since I still haven't watched the news. Is America getting the free Healthcare? The one that you don't have to pay around 300 dollars to stitch a leg?
More like 3000 dollars to stitch a leg. Haha. At this point it's just about over though. Barack Obama is caving like a lawn chair. He's giving in to the brainwashed loons and instead of doing what is best he is trying to please both sides. Now he wants to take out the public option from the bill. What's the point then?

Quote from Smashdood
The other problem is that now the government will be participating in the market. The government won't have any incentive to profit (who knows how that deficit's going), so what's to stop them from undercutting all competition? Do we have a regulatory board, or are we going to be putting other insurance out of business? Or, is that in fact the idea - to "crash" all overpriced health insurance companies to force better competition?
Quote from WaterboyI think its a bad idea.
When the government competes, they always win.
This point has been pressed over and over again, that the government doesn't have to worry about profit margins and that they'll drive all the private providers out of business. What people don't mention is that the government already competes in the market without driving every other private business into the ground (public schools, the postal service (as mentioned before), infrastructure, etc.).

What are you talking about? Are you familiar with this thing called the recession? The economy is most definitely NOT up and running, and that also has absolutely nothing to do with health care reform. What don't you see happening? Health care reform? Changes to the same economy that keeps the U.S. up and running? There are not multiple economies in America, and any demonstration of infrastructure would be 'trying to modify the economy'.
If I were to translate that post into a more sense-making version, it would say "I don't think that any government intervention in the economy will work," and that falls into the Repeatedly Disproved section of opinions, so I won't even justify that by discussing it further.

I'm Canadian, and I have to say, the free health care isn't a horror story. It is, if you are in the E.R I suppose. It's almost always full, I've had to wait 6+ hours when my eardrums burst, from an infection.
However, it does help a lot of people, being free. Maybe more hospitals would help, but that's a personal problem, not a problem with the Health care system.
I think America could handle it.
