Now that I just saw this thread, Ive sarted thinking about this too. A lot of people at my school laugh at disaster jokes, especially the Aids jokes.

Its because your on the internet.
On the internet, your not shown personally.
You dont know anybody, and nobody knows you.
Its simply about expressing an opinion because you can.

On topic - I don't see the benefit of referring to diseases and illnesses so seriously, but I DO see the benefit in laughing at them.

We become desensitized and when we see it more than 5 times it eventually becomes humorous.

Because we can.

Because things that are immoral aren't seen (or at least weren't) everyday. You get used to it and instead of being surprised you become intrigued. After so much interest it becomes a habit to laugh at other's misfortunes. Conformity also has a big role.

The human race is naturally in chaos. We are unable to dicde things for ourselves, ex. world leaders. We grow frustrated with inequality, ex. french revolution. We create inequality, ex. poverty,slavery. We kill for no reason whatsoever, ex. serial killers. We create "systems" that lead to further inequality, ex. currency. We burn,destroy,mutalate,crush,poisen, and only give structures that wont last 40 years after we finally leave.

All in all, we are the most brutal thing nature has ever spawned, and that is why we laugh at pain and misery.
