That's the strip, it's based on. I did this for a school project, and it couldn't be longer than 2 minutes, so that's why it's pretty short and abrupt.
As far as the black and white, I just did that mostly because I thought it looked better that way, since the original color was kind of muddy. Plus, most calvin and hobbes strips that I read are in black and white.
