I believe that when anyone wants to do an objective or reach a goal. They need motivation. Since this is an animating forum, ranks should be their motivation or their "goals". Its boring to animate without any goal(s) to reach. Besides, it just takes a few words. "I think your Intermediate. But, you need to work on your easing.," Whats so difficult?
Who agrees?

No.
Reason being, ranking tends to be heavily subjective. One person might looks for different things in an animation to another person and therefore rank differently.
Also, it promotes a degree of arrogance and increases the chance that cc will be rejected if it comes from a lower rank despite being equally valid.
It would also make us more like dd.
On top of that, telling people how they need to animate to reach the next level would limit the freedom to experiment with whatever programme people are using and would stifle creativity.

Everything Zed said, if people give ranks then people will only animate for ranks. Plus people think a rank is valid CC, which means the person doesn't get any technical feedback.

Ranks are completely opinionated with no real way to subject to what is a beginner, intermediate, or pro animator.

Motivation does not stem from goals, but from purpose. You can invent any goal you like, or have someone invent some for you, but if you don't feel like your efforts will somehow contribute to something greater, or be noticed, or benefit you then there is no motivation. To motivate animators... weekly / monthly contests with a chance to win front page feature and maybe prizes. SPP has this huge community behind it but I don't really see much of their work on Jays site...
Don't relle give a shit though, never ventured down into the animation attack section.

In my opinion ranks is a bad idea as stated above BUT there should still be a goal because in my personal experience i have always strived towards goals simply for the satisfaction of achievment. Therefore i propose acheiments like in Xbox-360. or trophys like in PS3. We can have a "awesome beam trophy" for people who are able to crate beams that are better than sucks or any other line. The line will be blurry of course since many people think differently but there should be some consistency and all those that are on the line are rejected.
I dont think this will work out well but it could be awesome if done correctly

Wow you really do make a very good arguement. I don't want to disagree with you for the fear that you'll crush me with your superior intelect.
Anyway I wouldn't want to disagree with you because your totally right.

I also think that ranks shouldn't be given
1. Zed is completely right
2. I'm animating: -just for fun
-in order to make a good animation I can be proud of
-because I want to show the guys here what I can :-)

I agree with Zed to be honest I asked because i wasn't really thinking about it because if you actually take a second RetardStickMan78 Might think it's amazing and then someone who's a good animator or who's seen a lot and kind of knows what to expect will say it's actually not that good.
