Gaming, and being a general work horse. I want it to be pretty damn good so I don't have to upgrade much while I am in uni.

An actual link to each of these products would help a bunch.
Preferably newegg links.

I guess I'll just search them myself. Will edit later.

For the CPU, unless you really don't want an AMD processor, get the 955, performs up to i5 standard and is cheaper:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103674

Also, the 5770 is basically a 4870 that supports DX11 or whatever. Get a 4890 which is in effect an overclocked 4870, but cheaper:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150438&cm_re=4890-_-14-150-438-_-Product
(note: I have a 4890 and it's great - run at about 50% fan speed, even though it's a bit loud).

[edit]
After doing some research, I see the 955 performs around the same as the i5 in games, however the i5 performs slightly better in other apps. Depends how much you want to spend. Have a look for some benchmarks.

Aye **** you mang.

I really dont get the AMD vs Intel war. What is the difference between a 4GHz dual core CPU from AMD and a 4GHz dual core CPU from Intel?

That's how I see it. Don't know much about it, but sometimes people say the "architecture" is better on most intel's. Also the cache is larger on intel but who the hell cares about cache nowadays?

Your Processor and Motherboard choice is great, everything is compatible and all that good shit.

I'd recommend just getting a 1TB. 10-20$'s more for 250GBs of extra space.
But really that's just a personal thing, you're going to wish you had.

RAM's all nice and dandy

That Graphics Card is sold out. If you need a recommendation I'll be glad to give you one.

500 Watts is barely going to be enough, I have a 600W and I don't have nearly as great as shit as you. Shoot for a 600 - 700+, seriously.

You don't really 'need' a sound card but I guess if you're a real audiophile you might want one. My onboard sound is all I need, no scratchy shit and plays in
splendid quality.

Lol at buying your Operating System.

Wireless card is ok.

Nice machine you got there, but Newegg doesn't have that gfx card in stock unless you plan to buy from somewhere else.

Coughfuckingcough

Intel tends to be a bit more reliable, just a bit more pricey (In terms of like 50-100$'s at most).

I tend to stick to Intel, I prefer the reliability + I love Intel Mobo's.

ati is good, i just think nvidia is better.

also intel is better for gaming and shit. amd is like the generic intel, and hell, amd came around after intel invented the cpu and made generic ones for cheaper.

intel performs better
amd is cheaper.

if you're not gaming/video processing, go with amd

Why get a 5770? It sucks dick for its price.

Also, I was wrong about the 9950 and 9550. They are more like a Q6600.

Suppose, but I don't see why. Hell, I still use DX9, never use DX10.
