Yeah, as I said this comp is going have to be upgrade free for several years (approx. 3-4) due to being a uni with really no money. So having a DX11 supporting card is pretty useful.

Well not all games are fully optimised for DX10 yet and that's been out a couple of years. I'm guessing DX11 will only be used as frequently as DX10 in 2-3 years. Also, DX10 cards will be able to run DX11, it's only things like shader model 5 they will struggle with.
Also, the DX11 benchmark and screenshots you see are bullshit. Developers have already said they simply demonstrate what DX11 is capable of, and in real games the differences will be far more subtle.

I need a DX11 card for when Bad Company 2 comes out, if anyone is planning to get that game they should get DX11 support

Personally I'd at least wait for the prices to go down. Paying £50 for a card that performs slightly less than another card simply because it has DX11 support seems stupid to me.
And did you miss my comment about DX10 cards being able to use DX11?

if you're willing to shell out 100 extra dollars, you can get a 5850. :/

Yeah, the 5850 is really good ATM. Way better than the 5770. 5770 was meant to beat the 4870, but didn't. The 5850 on the other hand has beat pretty much evertything but the 4870x2 (which I wouldn't get simply because of Xfire compatibility in games).
