Cracked recently mentioned this in an article and it's very, very fucked up. I've seen quite a bunch of fucked up shit, but this is beyond it all. In a nutshell, this guy wearing a Max Headroom mask hijacked WGN and WTTW in 1986 during regular broadcast, but only the WTTW hacking had audio and lasted for all its length. They never got the guys who did this.

But now then, I'm asking myself wether or not this guy had something on his mind when doing this. At first glance you'd think he's a complete lunatic with no hopes of recovery, but when you think about it I kind of have my doubts.

First off, you need some equipment and also a bunch of knowledge to be able to just hijack broadcasting like that. So him and the people surrounding him can't be complete basket cases since engineerin' ain't easy, ya know. And then there's the Pepsi can joke that has some wit, seeing as the original Max Headroom was doing Coca Cola advertisment, and "Catch the Wave" was the Coce tagline back then, which the hijacker utters while fumbling with a pepsi can.
Now I'm not sure, was this guy just completely retarded, an attention whore or did it all have some purpose?

If it had a purpose, the only one I can think of would be subliminal messaging. And if that's the case I can't see that it worked. That is unless I go out and commit a mass murder within the next week or so.

Doesn't seem that weird to me. If this is the most ****ed up shit you've ever seen then you haven't been on the internet very long. If he shot himself in the head afterward I think it would be better.

If I had the ability to hack TV stations I'd definitely do some stuff like this.

I really don't know why people think it's a talent to be able to through the gore page on ED without flinching, this was pretty creepy regardless of whatever other ****ed up shit is on the internet.

That being said, I'm leaning more towards him doing this on purpose... I don't think anyone that's that much of a lunatic on a normal basis would have both been able to interrupt a broadcast and avoid being caught all this time for doing so. That and appearing insane really isn't that hard when you're wearing a mask like that.
