For those of you who don't know- Les Claypool is the bassist/singer for Primus. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5LXC3hHRog&feature=related

Cliff Burton is the bassist of Metallica. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KpxOmksHrY

Being a bassist, I love them both.
I won't say more... just tell what you think.

Are you serious? Burton sucked. He made bass sound horrible, like..a guitar clogged with cum. Metallica blows anyway. And he's dead. So no one gives a ****.

Les Claypool has such an original style of playing. It's just fun.

I mean, you can't even compare the two styles in the first place.

yeah, he played distorted bass, and he was incredible at it. that was really only during solos anyway, he didn't distort it much during studio recordings or whenever he played in the background. and he had way more classical ideology and training than your average bassist which kept his solos and riffs from becoming the stale pedal shit 90% of metal bassists play today

Les Claypool has such an original style of playing. It's just fun.

err, there's really nothing original about how he plays the bass. he's an incredible player, don't get me wrong, but his songwriting is way more original than his actual technique. he just combines a bunch of styles that musicians like larry graham or bootsy collins established way before him.

Little known fact,
Les Claypool was going to be Metallica's bassist before CLiff Burton joined.
He just wasn't what they were looking for,
he was the kid in suspenders, with a purple mohawk, and a trench-coat on.

He was way too strange for them...

EDIT:
Whoops nevermind,
he auditioned AFTER Burton's death.

What? No way...

I'm not surprised though that Metallica didn't accept him.

There's a video interview about it on youtube, they didn't accept him because he was "too good", haha.

Eh,
that's what they say,
but I read somewhere in an interview with Les Claypool that it was that he was just too strange for him...

Well Les Claypool just wouldn't fit in Metallica at all... his style wouldn't mesh with Metallica's. They've never had a bassist who was as leader like as Les, or who was a singer.
