Quote from Wartooth
Yeah my ex cut herself, never knew this till one day I pulled her sleeve up and saw.
Freaked the shit outta me.

Then she explained why,
she said that she had been raped by her former boyfriend.
I Spiralled into depression,
took hallucinatives....
then months later found out from others that she had been lying(friends told me a different story that she had been raped at a young age, and then another story from her former boy who said she had been raped by her father recently)
Confronted her,
she wouldn't answer me about it.
I accepted her,
she blew me off and ignored my Birthday by making some lame ass excuse, that was bull.
Left her.

shit sucks man

Why are all these people getting depressed, doing drugs, and taking "hallucinatives" over someone else's problems...? Oh, my friend's brother raped her, I'll be a pillar of support by spiraling into a hell of drugs and alcohol with her. Real constructive.

Anyway. Emo is too broad a subject. Are we talking about the attention-whore ones that talk big about burning shit and cutting themselves, or the ones who actually do burn shit and cut themselves because they're mistaking a desire for help with a desire for attention? Clarification would be appreciated.

Because I wanted to do something but I couldn't do anything.
If someone you love is hurting, you will really want to help, but when you can't, you become saddened. I couldn't
do shit and I couldn't tell anyone about it. I had to suck it in.

I understand where Wartooth is coming from
Except I wouldn't go nearly that far about not being able to help the said girlfriend. Each to his own I guess.

The emos I've met are a varied group, just as goths were before them, and punks before them. They're pretty much a group defined by their style and attitude toward life. It's not their actions or personalities, it's whether they feel apathetic and self-loathing, but they freely share their emotional "turmoil". And I'm not downing anyone for their reasons, but you can't see someone who's genuinely depressed and say they're whiny bitches because their reasons aren't "good" enough for you. People have varying degrees of sensitivity and in our culture, the sensitivity is cranked pretty high, so those of us privileged enough to understand or even experience true pain and suffering shouldn't feel as though we're somehow stronger, we're just more knowledgeable. I think there are certain people more prone to acting this way and it seems to be just a phase they go through as the hormones of puberty and adolescence mix with their new understanding of the world near the end of middle and beginning of high school.

I've known cutters and there really is no help for them outside of institutions. I mean, if parents don't see it and try to fix it, then it gets to a certain point where they'll continue to scar their skin because they're addicted to the pain. I tried it once out of depression and drinking. One night I was able to finally allow myself to cry after a very long time of feeling no real sorrow. Someone important to me was a cutter and I didn't understand it, so I wanted to see what it was like and honestly, it really did work. I stopped crying and I felt better about myself. It's like all that stupidity bled out of me and the pain was the gateway for the weakness to leave my body. But I'll never do it again. I only left about six tiny scratches on my leg and arm, but I hate them.

tl;dr Emos aren't bad but they handle relatively small issues very poorly and need to understand that. It's a result of parents not dealing with the process of puberty very well. But, obviously it doesn't affect everyone so the "true emos" are probably prone to it from an early age.

because
a) you have no idea how close she is to me
b) she is one of the (very) few people i have ever actually cared for (in any serious way) (at all)
c) there is nothing i can do to help the situation; furthermore she lives in another country so i can't even give her a hug
d) it would have been extremely easy to give her brother one hell of a beating, as i know who he is, where he lives and what he looks like; he also regards me as an old friend. i also know how to, and have the tools to, pick the lock of his house if necessary. the only thing lacking is the ability to get away with it. this is a sacrifice i am entirely willing to make, but not one that anyone else is willing to let me make. as such i did nothing, and proceeded to drink myself into stupor
e) go **** yourself
