Is it really a good idea to cure cancer? Should we really mess with the balance of life?

Curing cancer can't be any more harmful to "the balance of life" than curing smallpox or leprosy or measles is/would be.

Why not cure cancer?
Cancer is just an uncontrollable cell division,
and the biggest problem with curing it is that there is so many different causes for it.

Answer me this,
Why shouldn't we cure it?

I don't see how it could go negative on us.
It's caused by defective cells, I'm not sure it's necessarily a virus.
I think it's just a genetic mutation.

We mess with life in every other aspect of every single thing we do, curing a debilitating disease is the least of our worries.

If we'd like to cure cancer we'd have to attack the many sources, and to my belief I'd say it's near to impossible to cure every form of cancer.

How? If you don't want to sound like a noob, in the Debate Section always back up your opinion with examples.

My opinion: if curing cancer is bad, give me 1 good reason to keep it around. It's an extremely painful (and costly) ailment that takes many lives- about 555,500 per year in the US alone. Those lives, those people deserve the chance at life if it is within our power to give it to them.

That being said, I don't think it is possible to completely "cure" cancer, because it's not caused by another organism like most diseases. We can eliminate some viruses that help move it along, and raise awareness about the factors 2-D mentioned, but short of major genetic tinkering, which the public would almost certainly oppose and we lack the skill to do on a large scale anyway, we could not make a siginificant difference. And even altering our genes to give us more protection could not completely stop cancer, only reduce the chances of it happening, because it's also partially random.

you know how many times i've argued against that man? you can say it is but the actual scientific proof, meaning when they looked at the lungs of long time heavy smokers (5 joints a day minimum), show that it in fact does NOT cause cancer. the carcinogens in the cannabis degrade any cancer causing materials left behind. thats all imma say though cuz I don't feel like derailing this thread

Well I'd heard that there had been 0 cases of cancer caused by marijuana, thus why personally I don't see anything wrong with it. I always thought it COULD cause cancer though. Well, I've learned something new :)
