hey, i'm new here and if i'm doing anything wrong, please tell me.

what is your view on religion, everyone knows that in today's society, the large religions of christianity, cathlocism (pardon my spelling), and judaism (pardon again) are hugely prominent, but have you ever wondered what if the "pagans" were the ones who developed guns first, came across the oceans and killed us off? then wouldn't our religions be pagan? and theirs would be the prominent religions?

sorry if i sound stupid, but does anyone agree?

Of course it does. But then Christianity, Judaism, etc would be considered pagan instead of those.

I don't think it would make any significant difference in our society though.

BTW, most of Stickpage is atheist, be prepared for flaming.

You really need to stop generalizing.

I feel the less you care about Religion, the less it controls your life. Because honestly, going to church every sunday for an hour can get annoying.

In short, I couldn't care less about religion.

Most religions were already pretty much established by the time guns were invented. Or do you mean that for example african countries developed first, and spread their culture and religions to the west rather than the other way around? Because obviously history would be very different then.

Just to raise a more interesting question; do you think that the general nature of humanity would have been substantially different? Or would it eventually, with the advance of technology, naturally lead to democracy, equality, and secularism?

Depending on which religion, possibly, but I just don't know enough about them to make a conclusion.

If African society, instead of European, had spread all over the globe, would they take Europeans as slaves? We just don't know.

And zawmbee, how do I generalize?

I'm Agnostic. Close to be Athiest, basically that you can't prove a religion true, yet you cannot prove it false.

It really ordipends (spelling shittah) which religion it is. If say, buddism where to be the worlds biggest religion, I'm sure that worldwide peace would be established, wheras if another, violant religion, where to concour the earth then perhaps there would be conflict. But if I'm saying that then it would be exactly the same as now accept the power would be the other way around.

-_- ignore me I'm tired and don't know what I'm talking about.

I think it could absolutely have been substantially different. In Islam, for example, there is much focus on the connection between islam and state - Sharia is the highest law, and the state should follow sharia, not the other way around. In Saudi Arabia this is enforced, with the Qur'an as the constitution of the country. This has obviously affected the country in many ways; it is not democratic (it is ranked amongst the most authoritarian regimes in the world), it does not have equality (it is a monarchy, homosexuality is illegal, genders are not equal), and it is definitely not secular. If the rest of the world was developed with the same view and philosophy, I'm sure the world would be very different.

I think I am of a rare breed round these parts, most people don't give a shit from what I have seen, which really matches current society. Then if you consider the fact that this is a quasi anonymous place in the respect that no one from your real life knows you're here, you can express your actual opinions e.g. Ash

This is bullshit, you're an atheist agnost. No close to being an atheist, you are an atheist.
No he is indifferent eg Agnostic
Quote from Wikipedia
Agnosticism is the view that the truth value of certain claims—especially claims about the existence or non-existence of any deity, but also other religious and metaphysical claims—is unknown or unknowable.[1] Agnosticism can be defined in various ways, and is sometimes used to indicate doubt or a skeptical approach to questions. In some senses, agnosticism is a stance about the differences between belief and knowledge, rather than about any specific claim or belief.

Agnostic Atheist
Quote from Wikipedia
Agnostic atheists are atheistic because they do not have belief in the existence of any deity, and agnostic because they do not claim to know that a deity does not exist
