"{ONDON (AFP) – Aliens may exist but mankind should avoid contact with them as the consequences could be devastating, British scientist Stephen Hawking warned Sunday.
"If aliens visit us, the outcome would be much as when Columbus landed in America, which didn't turn out well for the Native Americans," said the astrophysicist in a new television series, according to British media reports.
The programmes depict an imagined universe featuring alien life forms in huge spaceships on the hunt for resources after draining their own planet dry.
"Such advanced aliens would perhaps become nomads, looking to conquer and colonise whatever planets they can reach," warned Hawking.}"

This is a caption of a Yahoo! news read it!. Do you think aliens is a threat depending on what might their purpose traveling light years of distance just to see earth? For example, they might travel that far away because of advance technology they got that we dont know about or maybe their planet was destroyed and the resources they need is depleted so they looking to conquer another planet for that resource and just completely abolish us because they dont think like humans. Look, I think the chances of two species meeting eachother in the vast nothingness is extremely unlikely. We could go on until the death of our species without ever meeting alien life forms above a cellular level. However if we do meet aliens then what the hell can we do? avoid them? how? We move the whole freekin planet? If aliens are gonna find us then there aint a damn thing we can do about it except embrace it.

Well, one thing that you need to consider is how advanced these Aliens are. Is there any reason to believe that they have developed some ultra fast method of transport that can take them to us before we do?? Most likely is that they will not have developed this before WE have. If we do in fact encounter them, there is no reason to believe they would have the upper hand.

But lets say they do visit us, with millions of "Star Wars" style warships and weapons far beyond anything we could dream of.

Dagwood has a point. Except, it is very likely that Earth, if we haven't trashed it will be a hub of possible life and expansion. It's not as if those conditions are exactly BOUNTIFUL in the universe. However, we must also consider the possibility that the conditions we call suitable for life are vastly different than theirs. Heck, Earth could be considered a toxic waste dump with air that makes your brain explode for all we know.

Of course, personally I doubt that there is any other life form mobile and intelligent enough out there that would be a problem.

there probably is some super advances race out there, because who knows exactly how big our universe is. and who knows if ours is the only one? is this alien discussion only about aliens in our universe? its fun to think of though, shame I can't get the long limbed aliens out of my mind every time I think of it.

Our planet isn't nearly destroyed, it's been civilized. Besides, nature is finding new ways to adapt all the time. In the end Earth will outlive us and we will just rise and fall. No harm done.

I just believe that one day our race is goin to be threat to others form of life in universe and we are goin to be that so called alien stranger in space you know why i think this way because we are the only species that is capable understnding things beyond of grasp and the only one that advances and evolve faster than any other species and can control whether we are evil or no. which is the cause of the failure of everything during our rein here on earth. in short as long as we can imagine how good or evil things can be in or outside of our planet we our the greatest threat of all because we are capable of adapting to any situation we are in. We are on the top of the food chain.

If aliens are more advanced than us, they are obviously on the top of their food chain at their home planet... what makes us better than them? Who says that we're the only species capable of... understanding things we don't understand(???), and adapting to things? How does knowing good from evil make us all evil, and be the "downfall of our rein here?"
