View Profile Got this PM from Hewwy and I'm not that sure about how to respond.
Hey bro, can you help me out on this appeal?
You have received
2 infraction point(s) for
Minor Spam because of the following post:
Can someone change the title of this thread to "why do you fap"
best April Fools poll ever
Link: [post]1339812[/post]
etc.
How is this post any different that time I suggested that Mike might be an April Fool's prank in a thread that wasn't related to mike? Or how bout taht time I suggested this very same thing^ to happen in your thread (a thread title change for the lolz) and you merely laughed it off? In what way was this derailing? I made 2 posts about it and left it alone. I knew the mods weren't going to do it. I also posted this on APRIL 1, the ONLY time when this post was appropriate.
What the hell Azure.
He kind of has a point. Offhand comments are made all the time, and the times that we choose to infract them seem to depend on what kind of mood we're in rather than following a solid basis.
For example, I recently reported a post Setto made in the Minecraft thread that was a totally offtopic comment on Caelo's avatar, and Raptor said it was fine. And sure, no harm done that's totally cool. But if we infracted a quip on changing the thread title (and Poppet's reaction to it) during April Fools, Setto's post would have been infracted too. And honestly I don't mind posts being allowed to deviate from the topic. It adds more variety and encourages discussion and stuff. Maybe we don't need to infract every single post that isn't directly pertaining to the thread's topic. But if we do, we should have more consistency.

View Profile Yeah, just to clarify, I believe that one or maybe two posts that are off-topic isn't really an offense. There really isn't any harm done and the original thread keeps its integrity. It's only when the thread becomes derailed for a page or more with something off-topic that there needs to be intervention. Or if there's any obvious malicious intent or deliberate actions to make the thread off-topic and spam.

View Profile I totally saw that already :p I'm not really sure what it brings to the table though. Yeah they got infracted, but countless off-topic comments and jokes aren't, and Hewitt's wondering why it's fine sometimes and worth 2 points other times.
Maybe small amounts of off topic posts shouldn't be infractioned, because infracting every single post that isn't on topic would be suffocating. Like Raptor said, it might be better suited for when people have actually derailed the thread or if they're trying to derail it. But even for this scenario no harm was really done.

View Profile Eh, I suppose I initially saw it as on topic since it was posted on a day when jokes are supposed to be had and the other wasn't and got reported. Mark XD acknowledged them differently so I treated them differently, until I was told not to treat them differently.

View Profile I'm with Dev and Hew on this one. Why did you infract poppet as well? that maes it worse lol.
Look I hate when things go off-topic for 2, 3 ,4 pages. I really do, and I do infract people for this BUT ONLY when I can see that that specific off-topic post can easily lead to a really different kind of conversation than the thread's original topic. This was just a joke, that will probably have a reaction or two and then the conversation will follow it's normal course once again.
You gotta difference between harmless off-topic jokes like this, and intentional off-topic posts that clearly want to change the topic completly and that it may last quite a few pages.
I'd reverse both infractions.

View Profile I infracted Hew because I was told to after I infracted poppet, whom I infracted because Mark had a problem with his post and reported it. Most things in Poll Central I infract for reports rather than simply because I want to, because people feel different ways about how their polls run.

View Profile Ya but we can't hand infractions just because it gets reported. We gotta look at each situation and WE decide if it's worth an infraction or not. In this case I think it just wasn't worth it.

View Profile And I felt that since it was after April 1st and nothing had happened to the thread, then the report was valid.
