Okay, im going to avoid posting artwork I have already done, because really its the now that matters....or something like that. (must be deep)

Anyways, here's the latest drawing i've done. Its a rendition of The Flash presented in the art style I will use to animate him if the client chooses me as the animator. (its actually the full justice league but ive only drawn him so far):

Here is batman, now:

Is it just me, or does someone else think that the standing batman looks like a game-ready sprite? :D

Very nice work, at least with the batman lol.
Flash is very blegh. The stances you chose weren't very good, and the second position is terrible.
Yeah the standing image of Batman does look like something that could be used for a game.

Thanks for the critique, got a question though:

Can you explain the dislike for the Flash? For the standing pose for him, its a basic standing pose not really meant to be dynamic so thats probably the problem with that, I will avoid doing that for the rest of the characters. For the second pose, I could not find a single reference for it, I mainly wanted him to look laid back in a sitting position. (also overconfident) How would you suggest fixing him? Any advice is helpful :)

You must be talking like a beer gut, because if you base off of shape and his ribcage, he certainly isnt. You are probably talking about the lines and shading of his abs?

well, i can't tell if that's an insult or your referring to flash having a beer gut.

And the reason he looks fat is because your proportions/perspective is off assuming that you're trying to achieve a seated position effect. but you don't have to take my word for it since im just a noob

The thing that gets me is you probably didnt look very long before saying that...so you are probably right. I will look into it. Hell, I started using references a lot more, so maybe I can fix this. Thanks :)

Anyways, I recently did an anatomy study based on Figure Drawing, the book by michael hampton, and here is the result:

I did this to show another artist the benefits of using visual references to enhance their art. Sadly the foreshortening on my feet are wrong...oh well.

you got some talent man
personal faves are the standing batman and the anatomy reference

i feel like most people don't like the flash because the proportions look unnatural somehow. like when he's sitting down it didn't click that he was sitting down until you said he was. i think the ribcage might be a tad too wide, or something. oh, and dat bulge

The lower body looks small in comparison to the rest of him. That is what looks odd about The Flash, at least to me.

I think that I was too ambitious with the pose for flash, I didnt do the proper steps for his construction, and that caused him to seem too strange. I havent had a chance to redesign him, but I will take the time to today at some point.

Anatomy Study- the infraspinatus, teres major, multifidus, and half of the hamstring muscles are missing or miniscule. Mostly attention to where the spine of the scapula is would help round off where the rest of those forms should go, but the ones ON the scapula are tiny and pushed up to make room for those huge lats. Also when you gesture the figure it;s best to make draw measurements for the ribcage and the trapezius seperately, even if they make a nice circle the ribcage is too important structurally to be fused to a muscle in the underlying sketch.
This, after taking an anatomy class with the professor reading off this book for each lecture, I'm sure is one of the best books for anatomy out there. It gives photo examples of every prominent surface muscle on the human body. It's really fun to read.
Flash- you know the problems mostly, but the pecs got squashed from your theory of where the pecs should go in that pose I guess, but they're like 1/3 the size of average pecs, and that looks weird on a superhero. pecs need to be prominent on about every human being.

You're going in the right direction. I like this stuff!
Also the batman looks like a pouting child. Don't compress your poses into sitting like an emo kid. I mean yeah hes batman but batman isnt a queer

Thanks for the advice Kitsune, the only thing I probably wont do that you said is use that anatomy book. I think its great, but I would much rather use Figure Drawing by Michael Hampton because it seems to click for me. I have tried Human Anatomy for Artists as well as other more technical books and it never works for me. Maybe if I use it to go into more detail on the anatomy that is presented in Figure Drawing then it would be more effective.

Either way, thanks for the advice man and I am trying to learn the anatomy, but its hard to do it all on your own, so im working my way up!
