Well he isn't going to wait until a couple of months from now until he's good to get C&C. If he's just starting and makes a couple of images it's good to know what to improve on from the beginning.

not the point. He can just wait until he's used to the program, then once he draws something he thinks is complete and presentable (criteria not just being it cant be complete crap). That might take him a week. He might die of cnc starvation or something but at least he'll be satisfied with the result.

Sorry but, when I first got Sai, the first thing I did was to look up on tutorials involving using the program. My first image wasn't good of course, and I didn't use many of the tools which would have made my life easier. Nonetheless, I still tried to get myself familiar with the program. while I don't expect everyone to be like this, I still think that he should have spent some time in looking at least try to be familiar with what all these tools do, enough to make something substantial and not just small images that anyone could make even in less than an hour.

There is no glow feature but you can use airbrush (which I did...) to create a similar effect... but it's not the same...

you can just use brush or marker and blur a tiny it :)

So, Quik:

Your work has potential, it really does. However, these drawings that you've done are not what SAI is designed for. The stuff you've done is the sorta stuff that you can do in Flash. SAI is much more a manga/anime tool than a general drawing tool. The lineart capabilities of SAI are amazing, as are the fast sketch and colouring. SAI makes it very simple for you to quickly map out, line, and colour a drawing.

So firstly, SAI is not vector, as you've probably noticed. You may or may not know, but if a program does 'vector' drawing, such as Flash does, you can zoom in/out to any distance and the drawing will not be pixalated. However with SAI, if you zoom in you'll notice that it pixalates. For this very reason you don't want to go drawing stick figures in SAI, unless you use an extremely high resolution. This has it's pros and cons; you'll get smoother lines, but your RAM usage will shoot through the roof.

Having said that, your work has potential. I would suggest switching back to Flash for artwork like this. I love SAI, but I would definitely not use it for any such art that involves stick figures, or the background for an animation, etc etc.

Sometimes it's best just to be mainstream.

I wouldn't recommend Flash for drawing anything. The brush and snapping are garbage. Use Illustrator or Photoshop.

I strongly disagree.

Flash can be wonderful for drawing. I never said you had to use brush. People do seem to be extremely against people using the pencil tool, but in all honesty, you can use a mixture of the different tools for a wonderful result.

That said, Photoshop is the best option for everything.
