First of all, i would like to say that if your an atheist, please refrain from flaming or causing trouble in this thread

I am Christian and i believe in Jesus Christ, therefore i believe in the commandment "thou shalt not kill"

so i had a question for all of you, if you are religious and believe in the commandment "thou shalt not kill" because it is a sin, what if you were drafted into the army, where you're meant to kill, would you kill? or would you refuse?

i'm just curious and want other religious opinions.

discuss.

I'm not christian, But I'm religious.
So In a christian perspective I would say, it depends on how you interpret the bible.

Matt. 5:44, he said: "However, I say to you: Continue to love your enemies and to pray for those persecuting you."

or

"I come not to bring peace, but to bring a sword" (Gospel of Matthew 10:34)

I'd rather live with the idea of there being absolutely nothing after death, than clutch onto obsolete beliefs.

he specifically asked you to keep your opinions to your selves if you're an atheist my dude..
and anyway, the bible does say thou shalt not kill and on numerous occasions tells us that murdering people is a no-no, but also, the isrealites went to war with many nations, and i'm pretty sure they weren't fighting with flowers and gumdrops. :L

They don't draft anymore, they now do Selective Service, which means you can choose whether you want to join or not. That's what I learned from MCJROTC. In any case, if I WERE drafted, I would first go to church and earn my absolution before I go there. Without a proper confession, you will break that commandment.

You really deserve a ban for not reading the first sentence of a post. now be a good boy and don't make this a religion thread, we all know how horribly that idea went.

All continue with thew topic. When Roman soldiers came to John the Baptist and asked what they should do, he told them not to abuse their authority, He did not tell them that they should leave their job. In several occasions the bible states it's okay for the government to use force. Plus not to mention the crusades. and countless other wars. In not sure the 10 commandments plays a role with the bible anymore, "thou shall not kill" means nothing now, and has been obliterated when the bible says Children should be stoned to death if they disobey their parents.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life" well apparently god doesn't love everyone either, the westboro baptist church says "god hates fags" Oh and EDIT: "god hates islam"

well, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 - "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God." thats pretty clear about the gay thing :P

That doesn't really make sense to me. By this logic, would telling a shopkeeper that you're sorry before stealing his stuff mean that you didn't break the law? Not really.

Not quite. The bible describes God as a perfect and holy being that is so not-evil that our sinning selves can't even be in the same universe as him. Which is why it says that a single sin condemns a human being from being able to enter Heaven
