I'm not gonna lie, these all made me excited and giddy, and then I remembered how poor I am... But all in good time. Thank you very much to both of you, you gave me a whole lot more than I was expecting.
Quick question, how far past the anime is the Btooom! manga? (Likewise with Aku no Hana, just out of curiosity)

Also whats your thoughts of Biomega? It was one of few manga Madman has that caught my eye.

I didn't even know Btooom had an anime so no. Aku no Hana I just heard about recently but I've yet to check it out. I like the anim style though. And I know nothing about Biomega.

Just thought of some more:

Parasyte (Complete) - It's about an alien race of parasites that kill people by taking over their brains. Then one parasite misses because the dude was wearing headphones and now he's sharing sentience with the guy by living in his right hand. Of course, expect some body horror specially cos the parasites can warp flesh in the vein of The Thing. There's also sidestories of other Parasite humans and their struggle to become "more human". Also the Final Boss is just fucking impossible.

Ikigami (Ongoing) - If you've ever read The Lottery, it's basically that story mixed with Death Note. It's about individuals who receive the titular Ikigami (death papers) which usually signifies that they only have 24 hours left to live. Each 'episode' is told from the POV of a receiver but each episode ultimately ties in to an overarching plot about why this system was set in place by the government in the first place. Lots of intrigue and emotional buildup for the characters who are set to die.

Hell Girl (Complete) - Watch the anime. Screw the manga. At first sight, this just appears to be a highly repetitive guilty pleasure plot: People enter the name of someone they want dead on a Mysterious Website and at the expense of their own soul going to hell, the Hell Girl will come and reap your vengeance for you. For like the first quarter and a half of the first season, it is routinely formulaic. And then it starts developing some distinct moral dilemmas. As you watch, the lines between black and white begin to blur. Did the victim-of-the-day deserve to goto hell? Did the avenger deserve to live? Is there any difference at all? The show is an acquired taste but if morality is your thing, then this will shake you up for quite a bit. There is an overarching plot about Hell Girl herself but I wasn't really into that as much as the moral implications presented in each episode.

Gantz (Complete) - Only very recently it finished so I might finally read this soon. When it first came out, it was quite a shock to those who've seen the anime. Without spoiling anything, it's basically a deconstruction of the First Person Shooter by making the protagonists actually experience it. What's really jarring for me was that anyone can die and in the end we find out that death is literally nothing. Anyways, I shan't spoil it anymore but I will say this is QUITE the read. It's very long.

Underdog (Ongoing) - It's updating at a snail's pace and it's barely new but its intriguing: the hikkomori protagonist is forcefully invited to join a tournament where 200 people must kill each other for 8 rounds to win a cash prize of billions. The catch is they can't directly inflict harm/death or cause it and must influence others to do so. So yeah, check it out when you can.

Fourteen (Complete) - OMG. This manga. I can't even begin to explain what its about. Let's just say if I told you exactly how this thing goes, you'd be all "WTF....that's so retarded. I don't even---" but if you read it yourself...strangely it'll all make sense. Fourteen is a sci-fi apocalyptic manga about uhm well, the world ending in 14 years. For no reason. Oh right there's a humanoid chicken on the cover. I suppose I should tell you about this dude named Chicken George who mutated from a Japanese Chicken factory and decided to take revenge against the human race for putting animals out of commission. Buuuut to say that the plot revolves around this guy is stretching it. I know, this is very confusing for you right now but take my word for it and read it with an open mind and you'll see the madness of a senile genius (this was the last published manga for the guy). Incidentally the author is more famous for his other work...

Drifting Classroom (Complete) - This is Kazuo Umezu's main masterpiece. Basically: an elementary school is teleported into a post-apocalyptic wasteland and everything (internally and externally) is trying to kill them. Hilarity ensues. Check it out from the 'grandfather of japanese manga horror' himself.

lol, you're discounting Biomeat and MSE but not NaruTaru's infamous worm scene? You should definitely not read that then.

It helps to know that I was frankly surprised that Biomeat was a shonen manga when I finished it. You should really try and finish reading it Raptor, at least until the first timeskip.

What I like about MSE is that Anybody Can Die. It's not just a survival thing. It's the horror of this immense Eldritch abomination that just won't give up until everything is dead and there's little to nothing you can do about it. So don't be turned off by the gore. Endure it XD

But yeah, just so you know youwishjellyfish, the goriest thing I've seen in Mahou Shoujo of the End is
here (Click to Show)

Never read/saw NaruTaru, so I can't comment (is the anime better than the manga?). I gave Biomeat a lot of chances. I actually read far enough to get after the second time skip, but then I stopped for the reasons stated. I didn't read Region prior to you post so I read that one all the way to the end. It was a lot more bearable I think, but it's not that great. Good past time though. One of the biggest things I liked about MSE was that everybody could die too. It just seemed way too random and grotesque for me. I'm still waiting for updates actually so I guess I haven't really dropped it yet. The scene that you mentioned was actually the same scene that keeps on appearing in my mind every time I talk about MSE.

Hewitt, have you ever played 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors for the DS?

Well, after a quick look around to see whats available, it turns out I can buy Drifting Classroom (all of it), Ikigami (9 vols/10), and bokurano (10vols/11). Hopefully I can find some more stuff when I look a bit harder, but really, this is why I can't have nice things...
I'm kinda upset, Liar Game, Pandora Hearts, The Breaker, Akumetsu, Gararan, Doubt/Judge, Gamble Fish, I am a Hero, and Underdog are all stories that sound right up my alley (I would also probably read a lot of the horror manga suggested, but I dunno if I would buy them lol).

Also, I'm really enjoying Chihayafuru, I'm only 8 eps in, but I probs would have finished both seasons by now if life wasn't getting in the way.

I forgot to mention, Ikigami is a nice one. Each arc is its own story in that it covers different individuals in the same universe and they're all kind of touching in a way.

Ah well if you went well over to the 2nd timeskip I guess it really isn't your cup of tea. I just found it really engagnig for me, especially with that cold-hearted son of the one responsible for all the biomeats in the first place.

With that said, I implore you to keep reading MSE as there is more to it than just survival. Admittedly, I think the author wanted it to be a survival story and so he wallowed a bit in that plot device before he started getting into the characterizations more and presumably, figured out what he wanted to do with the story. I implore that you stick around until after the

and see if your opinion on it changes. There's a reason why I said this was pretty similar to Magica Puella Madoka in style.

And no, I plan to play the Zero Escape duology next year when I buy a 3DS so I can play them back to back.

As for NaruTaru's violence well. The anime is definitely tamer as most of the deaths are offscreen or obscured. To paint a picture of this worm scene, read on:

Btw, interestingly enough, did you know that the guy who wrote NaruTaru and Bokurano also wrote Digimon Tamers and designed the Septentriones from Devil Survivor 2? Makes sense, doesn't it?

Yeah like I said Chihayafuru is weirdly addicting despite being completely off-genre for me. And good choices with the planned purchases. If you thought Neo Genesis Evangelion was fucked up, you haven't seen anything yet. Bokurano is Evangelion on drugs.

The characters didn't attach to me. I don't exactly know why, but I didn't really like any of them, or at least I didn't care enough to continue reading. A large part of horror manga comes from desiring the survival of certain characters over others, and since I didn't care about any of the characters, a lot of the thrill was lost to me. The plot already kind of turned me off because the third arc's intro wasn't very interesting and the design of biomeat disturbed me more than I expected. There really was nothing left for me in the series and at that point I was already forcing myself to read the manga. In the end, I just decided it wasn't worth the time.

No, you misunderstand. I actually did read every chapter of MSE released, but I was kind of half-debating whether or not I would be reading the further updates. The plot definitely thickened after it got deeper, so I think I might consider picking it up again once they update it some more.

:( If you don't know already, the 3DS version has a game-breaking glitch in one of the areas, so you might want to google that up once you get your hands on the game.

So... are you recommending me the anime or the manga? lol

I think I read Digimon Tamers a long time ago, and I don't remember it being violent at all. The atmosphere didn't feel like Digimon but certainly nothing along the lines of what you're describing to me now. Never read any others of Kitoh's works before, so I can't relate too much.

I am answering your inquiries regarding the violence level. Which one you'd rather do is up to you. I would say manga though. I'm always biased towards the manga as that's usually the first adaptation and thus the closest to the vision of the author.

I'm seeking opinions on Kill La-Kill before I start watching it. I heard from a friend it is similar to Witchblade, which has me curious, but second opnions are always appreciated.

Watch it. You'd be doing yourself a huge favor. If you're not a huge fan of fanservice though, then I'd stay away from it. It's not as bad as say, H.O.T.D. , Queen's Blade, etc. But it's got it's fair share.

Nice. Also, loving the Jinx.
