Quote from YouwishjellyfishI'm not gonna lie, these all made me excited and giddy, and then I remembered how poor I am... But all in good time. Thank you very much to both of you, you gave me a whole lot more than I was expecting.
Quick question, how far past the anime is the Btooom! manga? (Likewise with Aku no Hana, just out of curiosity)
Also whats your thoughts of Biomega? It was one of few manga Madman has that caught my eye.
I didn't even know Btooom had an anime so no. Aku no Hana I just heard about recently but I've yet to check it out. I like the anim style though. And I know nothing about Biomega.
Just thought of some more:
Parasyte (Complete) - It's about an alien race of parasites that kill people by taking over their brains. Then one parasite misses because the dude was wearing headphones and now he's sharing sentience with the guy by living in his right hand. Of course, expect some body horror specially cos the parasites can warp flesh in the vein of The Thing. There's also sidestories of other Parasite humans and their struggle to become "more human". Also the Final Boss is just fucking impossible.
Ikigami (Ongoing) - If you've ever read The Lottery, it's basically that story mixed with Death Note. It's about individuals who receive the titular Ikigami (death papers) which usually signifies that they only have 24 hours left to live. Each 'episode' is told from the POV of a receiver but each episode ultimately ties in to an overarching plot about why this system was set in place by the government in the first place. Lots of intrigue and emotional buildup for the characters who are set to die.
Hell Girl (Complete) - Watch the anime. Screw the manga. At first sight, this just appears to be a highly repetitive guilty pleasure plot: People enter the name of someone they want dead on a Mysterious Website and at the expense of their own soul going to hell, the Hell Girl will come and reap your vengeance for you. For like the first quarter and a half of the first season, it is routinely formulaic. And then it starts developing some distinct moral dilemmas. As you watch, the lines between black and white begin to blur. Did the victim-of-the-day deserve to goto hell? Did the avenger deserve to live? Is there any difference at all? The show is an acquired taste but if morality is your thing, then this will shake you up for quite a bit. There is an overarching plot about Hell Girl herself but I wasn't really into that as much as the moral implications presented in each episode.
Gantz (Complete) - Only very recently it finished so I might finally read this soon. When it first came out, it was quite a shock to those who've seen the anime. Without spoiling anything, it's basically a deconstruction of the First Person Shooter by making the protagonists actually experience it. What's really jarring for me was that anyone can die and in the end we find out that death is literally nothing. Anyways, I shan't spoil it anymore but I will say this is QUITE the read. It's very long.
Underdog (Ongoing) - It's updating at a snail's pace and it's barely new but its intriguing: the hikkomori protagonist is forcefully invited to join a tournament where 200 people must kill each other for 8 rounds to win a cash prize of billions. The catch is they can't directly inflict harm/death or cause it and must influence others to do so. So yeah, check it out when you can.
Fourteen (Complete) - OMG. This manga. I can't even begin to explain what its about. Let's just say if I told you exactly how this thing goes, you'd be all "WTF....that's so retarded. I don't even---" but if you read it yourself...strangely it'll all make sense. Fourteen is a sci-fi apocalyptic manga about uhm well, the world ending in 14 years. For no reason. Oh right there's a humanoid chicken on the cover. I suppose I should tell you about this dude named Chicken George who mutated from a Japanese Chicken factory and decided to take revenge against the human race for putting animals out of commission. Buuuut to say that the plot revolves around this guy is stretching it. I know, this is very confusing for you right now but take my word for it and read it with an open mind and you'll see the madness of a senile genius (this was the last published manga for the guy). Incidentally the author is more famous for his other work...
Drifting Classroom (Complete) - This is Kazuo Umezu's main masterpiece. Basically: an elementary school is teleported into a post-apocalyptic wasteland and everything (internally and externally) is trying to kill them. Hilarity ensues. Check it out from the 'grandfather of japanese manga horror' himself.
