Only a 4.3? Aw, I didn't think my animation was that bad. Damn you radical variables! (the 0.7)

Whaow, I tied 6th with a majority of people. Definitely unexpected. Wonder what I did wrong.
Oh well, better try something different this next time around.
Congratz Terkoiz. AND YOU KIDKEI! <3 ;D
Great round everyone.

I was quite supriced about your score aswell. Although, I belive that the judges did put quite some weight on the special element, wich in this case was slippery ice. Sure you animated the ice in a very cool way, but there was not as much "slipperyness" as some other entries had.
I still think you deserved a higher score though. To bad I'm not a judge <: D

sorry guys, but something feels incredibly off and inconsistent about those scores. my own score was fine by me, but seeing kixx only get an 8.3.....that's just ridiculously wrong imo. hmmm.
there were a ton of entries, so it's understandable that the judges would have a difficult time being accurate with some of these in comparison to each other, but there are a few scores that stand out to me as being under/over rated big time. oh well, here's to round 2??
also, grats to kei for 2nd at least. reppin' ZB like a good man should.

yeah, seriously, who the fuck gave flax a 7? That animation was exactly what this contest asked for. he put a TON of effort into making the ground actually look slippery, the combo is great, the animation is consistent.. what else are the judges even looking for?
terkoiz's animation is good, sure, but in the context of this contest I really don't understand how it won. the combo took up, what, a few seconds out of the entire animation? the rest was a ton of cinematic extras that just distracts from the combo, I could barely tell what the moves were, and he completely avoided the challenge of making the ground appear slippery by using it as another excuse for over-the-top flashy effects.
I was excited for this when it started, but this is a joke. it's like seeing Michael Bay win a "best film director" contest, beating Alfred Hitchcock just because his movies don't have as many explosions.

Got 6.3 but i just have to try extra harder.
Jun 26, 2012 12:22 PM #684974
I got a 7.3
This is EXACTLY why i'm going to go full out on the next rounds. Even though I know i'm not gonna be the best, i want to at least make it to the top 5 at the end

Same here, Tocksique! :D
Also, I have the same feeling that the judges are kind of not looking for the things that should be concentrated on. Like Terkoiz. Of course his animation was very beast and was thinking outside of the box, but he's just not doing it right in my opinion. Sure there were some slippery business, but that was only concentrated on one person instead of the two others.
Also, the points that were scored for others were VERY noticeable.
1 : I saw a person score a "2" on a person's animation. Don't get me wrong, but if it's that bad, then yeah. But I would've scored at least a 4 or 5 for that person that tried. c:>
2 : The variation of the scores on one person would be very diverse like this. 7.4 : 4.9 : 8 [ This is just weird... ]
3 : Judges should concentrate on what's going on instead of the looks. I would go for smoothness, effort, and creativity. [ Terkoiz's animation was creative, but not done right. :| ]
Basicly, I agree with tentionmaru and Exilement.

I personaly think that the judges did a pretty good job and I dont really see why people are complaining. I mean the judges are not supose to only judge on how good an animation is, sure, but they are not only supose to judge on how good they animate the ice physics either.
Take Kixx for example. His animation was one of the best ones out there judging upon how good his animation was. BUT there was not much slippery ice physics there. I really only saw it once, and it was not that realisticly excicuted.
If you look at Terkoiz's entry though. He had amayzing angles and specialeffects, the combo was excicuted great and he did animate the icephysics in a realistic way, even if he didnt do it that much and thats really the only thing that was missing for him to get a full score.
Flax animated the ice physics PERFECTLY and it was quite humoristic aswell. But he had no soundeffects, no specialeffects and no angles. This is what brought down his score.
I do agree that the second judge WAS to harsh though at most cases, and I'll need to discuss that with him.

Quote from oxob3000But he had no soundeffects, no specialeffects and no angles.
I think in the context of a stick figure animation contest, this is absolutely ridiculous. None of those things have anything to do with stick figure animating. animating different angles should ADD to a score, but nobody should be faulted for not using multiple angles considering how short these combos are.
I disagree that terkoiz's combo was all that great. the last kick didn't even happen on-screen. hell it wasn't even a combo, in terms of each move seamlessly following the previous one. I don't see any realistic ice physics either, running and then jumping on ice doesn't make you slide 50 mph for several hundred feet.
it really is a great animation, I don't think terkoiz did anything wrong and I feel bad for criticizing him, but it's a good example of how ridiculous the judging is. it's unfair to some very good animators who didn't catch the judges' attention by wasting time on "special effects" and other unnecessary extras. I can't believe you guys fault someone for just focusing on animating stick figures, considering it's the purpose of this entire community.
maybe I'm just a purist, I dunno.
