A lot of the time it turns out to have useful implications. GPS systems, for instance, only work because of the theory of relativity.

Because one day we might be able to use it. Technology is constantly improving at an exponential rate. Also, there isn't really much point in anything when you think about it, why not attempt to satisfy our human curiosity and discover about this place we live in?

We don't pursue things because they're economical. Art isn't always about money, we don't do it to "tap into power". Your argument assumes that's the core intention for everything humans do, and that's far from the case.

the wording of that question is biased, you say "do you want to WASTE" the money on that. I disagree with the questions inference that the money is being wasted and thus I'm not required to answer.

My point is, if the stuff has no physical evidence whatsoever, it is a waste of money, time, and possibly human life to try to go to another star system and such.
