@eviltie good point actually. Though, there are some RHG's that are still pretty unique with pretty good backgrounds/stories.

I think it's cool that there are a multitude of new animators striving to improve and make stuff to entertain their community. It's a unique idea. But I really wish more people would make the leap from sticks to real characters/subjects, aka full-body. Why obsess over stick figures forever? It gets kind of ridiculous when you see stick figure ART. Like, drawings of stickfigures in the art section? That's just retarded.

I can't draw for shit, but I can animate. It's not an obsession, it's just the only way I can do it.

Agreed

The art is a bit weird, but I like rhg. RHG battles are the only thing over a minute I've ever completed. I normally start a long project, then lose focus, but with rhg I get all competitive and want to finish. For me, that makes rhg a really good practicing method.

I have to agree that sf art is weird, but the way I look at it; it's no different from learning the basics and moving onto full-body.
You add facials, limbs, hands, fingers, and it pretty much teaches me more on anatomy, I also get good coloring practice off of it.
I'm not going to go against that overall statement because I really can't complain since my avatar is a sf.
but it's basically preparation for the big stuff.

I'm seventeen and I still think they're awesome. They're only lame if you don't put effort into it. Seeing two great animators put in effort for a competition is always good, and powers are only unoriginal if the animator picks something lame. Fluidanims was practically BUILT on rhg, and that feature has been moved here now. I don't really understand why you go to a site about stick figure animation, yet hate the main form of competition here.

Lol yeah pretty much. No one gives a shit if a character is unoriginal or lame-as long as the actual animation is good and has effort put into it. I've seen like literally a hundred RHGs with swords as a weapon and some of the people who made that character can really make the unoriginal sword idea look awesome, because they put effort into their anims.

Also, my answer to the thread is just to learn more things. Like some other people I've known in the RHG battle world, I learn mostly when animating an RHG battle. It may be new moves, tricks, effects etc. But RHG battles bring out the most effort in me.

Age has nothing to with animation. I'm only 14 and I'm already doing an internship for a guy at UVU college. Yes doing animation at 8 years old is going to result in some pretty awful animation. But the results after 7 years would be amazing...

On topic, RHG means that I get to challenge someone of similar animation ability, or get someone back who made me mad, the last reason to challenge myself...

They should do both, animating stick figures is a good way to focus on the fundamentals of animation before trying to apply them to detailed characters. Focusing on two distinct disciplines at the same time is just going to slow your improvement with both.

Am I the only one who thinks full body animations are more fun, and a good walk/run cycle with a good-looking character is more exciting than an over-the-top stick fight? I'd actually post about animation if everyone was trying to make those, and instead of ending up with a bunch of pro stickfight animations filled with cool filters, sounds, and effects, we might end up with some brilliantly animated short films.

Well, I'm pretty sure that's what this site was originally about: Stick animations, otherwise it wouldn't be named stickpage.
But I think we're getting a bit off topic here, going from RHG meaning to fullbody animation/art.

if I cared about what this site is supposed to be about, I would've left four or five years ago.

Well, no one's stopping people from animating full bodies more than sticks. I think people just animate sticks because it's basically an easier way of expressing what they want their character to do. Some people are so shit at art/drawing real people that when they even speak of trying it out they demolish all their chances of success, (this is a hyperbole lol). But yeah IMO, people obviously won't let go of stick animation because it's easy to start with and if it's close enough to looking like a real creature with ease then who would pass on a chance like that? With enough determination and will you can perfect stick animation within about 6 months. Whereas in full body you need countless years of practice and discipline to master the art of character animation.

Okay, since this post is nearly fully off topic, I shall bring it back! Anyway another thing that RHG battles mean to me is that it's the perfect way to interact with other members. You get to know more people and most importantly you'll get a lot of practice 'in the field'.

That was, indeed. Sadly, mostly senior members posted there. Tawnik and others.
