But isn't old age just like any other disease?

Not really. If you treat it as a disease, it's the only one which 100% of the population has a 100% chance of succumbing to, assuming they don't die from other causes prior to it.

I'd say it's the same from an ethical point of view. You still have the same grieving family whether the 70-year-old dies of pneumonia or old age, or in a car crash for that matter. We try to treat the pneumonia or the car crash victim, why not old age*? (*in this hypothetical world where it's possible)

because old age is inevitable? as far as i know, you can't keep an organism from eventually decaying, unless you freeze them i guess, but that just defeats the purpose.

I wouldn't. Catching pneumonia or any other disease isn't part of a natural human life cycle. Aging is.

I'm not saying we shouldn't try to stop it, but if we do, we're halting a process that's naturally part of our biology. It also has extreme implications for population control. There are enough differences to make it distinct from treating any other disease, especially on an ethical level.

They discovered a planet like ours.To get there,it will take over a century.Since you live for ever it wouldn't kill you.

Killing off worthless poeple wont do any good.Babys are born each second. There are more babys born in a day than there are criminals in this world.

# What are the odds for cannibalism in this society? As long as the balance is tipped from too many humans, other creatures will die off and edible substances will become scarce.

Per say the government makes a claim that there's a low birth rate or some crap and secretly takes a certain number of babies born every year to turn into liverwurst. While the government controlled hospitals go along with it secretly.
Not to mention free abortion or some crap.

## Another odd would be holocaust via their own country, but the news feed shows a different country did it.
Which would leave the remaining population to attack and kill people who look like the race that originate from that country as well as ship people over to that country for war, resulting in the population reduction on both sides.

The country doesn't even have to be real, but news fed.

### Make a claim that there's another dimension people can travel to but it's one way. The gimmick wouldn't last long but with proper advertising, real science, and low-fee or free admittance if you're homeless, one could kill off millions.

% Birth Control would be a very bad idea, if it got out of control the whole human race could become sterile and humans would slowly die off until there's nothing left. I figure the last few remainders of humans would go mad, kill eachother, and/or suicide.

%% Mass depression from an over-demanding and over-controlling government could lead the population to rebelling or suicidal actions. I imagine lots of crime, rape and murder following a mass depression.

%%% Human experimentation would be a horrible way for the world to go. My ideas and theories about this subject are morbid, I'll leave it to your imaginations instead.

$ People, unable to gather strength from starvation, lay around and wait for ages until the space fabric spreads apart too far leaking in dark matter through the ripped fabrics.
The Dark matter removes space on touch destroying the universe at a massive rate.
the energy of the universe turns back to -x. The dark matter drops in temperature to Absolute Zero, stopping time and light.
The now non-moving universe is frozen, dead, where there's no time or light.
The end of the universe.

* the outer walls of space are 3 degrees above absolute zero. light shot through an area with a temperature near absolute zero slows down. In theory, light can't move through a space where absolute zero is achieved.
Life starts over.

** $ for science fiction.

Immortality would have many disadvantages. 1. is that the human population will increase at a terrifying rate, the world would be crowded. Hell the population is still increasing at a high rate even today!
2. Shortage of resources: Food, water, all other stuff.
3. because of the above reasons, people might go rampant and kill each other for the resources and space.

If you remember, Zed specified this was a lack of ageing not an imperviousness to violence.
