when is it appropriate to animate inside a symbol?

When you're doing a continuous effect or if you're just trying to make a loop

Even then, I'd do it in a movie clip.

umm.. a movie clip is a symbol

but ye when you want to make a loop
or if you want to add effects like blur and glow

thanks. i know i have seen this asked and answered some where and i'm sure it is explained in flash, but i will ask anyways. when i'm i suppose to use the graphic symbol, i already know when to use the button. i get somewhat confused between the movie clip and graphic; thus i never use the graphic.

I would say a graphic, because you can also see the loop outside of the symbol, which comes in handy when animating in multiple layers.

You should animate like this when you want a continuous loop.

as far as I know, you can't add filters to a graphic though
