I don't see why they're unprofessional. vBulletin and IPB are practically the same thing except they charge you out the ass to license them and they are arguably no where near as good as phpbb. Plus vBulletin's administration and moderation panels are honestly some of the worst designed tools I've ever seen. It WOULD be hell migrating though, and I'm mostly joking when I mention it.

Hm, I've set up/administrated a phpbb forum and a vBulletin forum and I thought vBull was a lot nicer and easier. Ditched phpbb as soon as possible. I couldn't find a sickass theme for phpbb either, but stickpage doesn't seem to be too concerned with that. It just didn't look pro-as-fuck enough to muffin and I till we got some vBullshit goin, personal tastes tho

because one is free, and anyone can make one, while one is paid for, and generally used by professional companies. just a visual opinion i guess

I think i currency system would be one of the funnest things if you added it. Whether it would have real worth or not. Just like a game! Ex. You will defeat monsters( make animations, rhg's) and get gold(The currency) Then buy a new sword(Buy a special feature you can add to your profile...blah blah blah) I think it would be a big hit. You could also make it have real worth to, and save up for a Graphics tablet like FA or somthin. I think it would really stomp out the laziness we have been seeing in Rhg pages and animations that people dont feel like finishing. Like when your animating 6 different stick reactions and you want it to be done but you just dont have the will to finish it. But WAIT! If i finish this i will get more oz, gold or whatever. It would prob stop people from dropping out of collabs to. People are motivated when given a reward. As for forum spammers take away all the currency and ban them from gaining for a month. That would stop most of them and for the rest that persist...perma-ban.
Anyway that is my opinion and i think it would be great for SP. ^^

I wonder just how long it would have taken to get the tablet though? If I remember correctly, Terkoiz was/is holding the most oz with like 24 000 just from the popularity of his animations..I guess it makes sense though
so one would have to accomplish the great feats of Phil around 4 times over again to get a tablet.

Or if you were really that desperate you could get a tablet on eBay for half the price (and most times half the quality lol). But I agree with you RobSenski, that's pretty much what I wish could be here.

To be honest though, the tablet would prob be the last thing on my mind. I would actually just like shirts and posters and special things on the site. ^^

Yeah, points are pretty useless unless if they actually have some real value to it.. or if your 13 it could be pretty fun.

I should start animating, and get really good by practicing constantly, and then get all the points by beating everyone in the RHG's or whatever, and never do anything with them.

animating can be fun as hell, but it's also really time consuming, which is mostly why I nearly never do it.

It's most likely just personal preference. I've never seen vBulletin as anything other than a mediocre bulletin board system that somebody wants me to pay them for. Being free doesn't make something lesser in quality, and it should be noted that phpbb is an open source project, which means you've generally got excellent documentation and a large community working to support each other. Being open source allows me as a programmer to easily integrate phpbb into my site without draining time, and even taking the whole system a step further by writing my own mods for it. You could do the same with vBulletin, but I doubt it would be as fast or efficient. Besides, most "professional" companies don't use any pre-made forum system, they all program their own, which is a step I'd like to take in the future. vBulletin just seems like it's there so someone can look down their nose at someone else using a free solution as if cost is a factor in how good something is.

Beyond that, it's hard to argue that vBulletin has a better system for administration and moderation, and as an administrator that's what's most important to me. Nothing in vBulletin is clearly outlined. When I first IP banned someone I had to google how to do it because there was no clear-cut "IP BAN" option under any heading. Instead you have battle the god-awful admin panel layout that uses bloody iframes to get to Options, and then browse a giant SELECT list of shit you can customize, find the User Banning Options, and then go to the page and add whatever you want to that list. The list doesn't give you any information beyond what IPs are listed, so I can't see why certain IPs were banned, and I can't see who added them.

This is how I feel it is like for every seemingly little feature on vBulletin. You have to jump through 50 hoops to get shit done, which ends up making administrating the forums very counter-intuitive. I don't even have access to reliable logs more than half the time, so it's hard to look back at events when a problem comes out. Even if phpbb may seem outwardly cheap to some (which it really shouldn't), their admin panel alone is worth installing it.

I ranted a lot more than I planned on but fuck this admin panel shit is getting to me.

I like the thing in vBulletin where you can open the individual pages of the forum and edit the code. does phpbb have that? I remember the admin panel just having a lot less stuff, and it took me forever to figure out how to install.
