But isn't it more valid self-expression to make your own signature rather than take a clip of a professional animation? Which is why your animated sig is more valid in my opinion than the TTGL gif that you have, as far as expressing yourself via sig is concerned.
But I guess using the phrase "cool sigs" gives a false representation of what I meant. I'm not trying to say that the sigs that I see now are "less cool". What I mean to say is that there used to be more individuality and creativity in sigs before.
Let's talk about Signatures

First of all, describing something as gay doesn't really give an accurate description of what you mean, but I'll play along.
How is a photoshop sig any "gayer" than a k-on gif?

someone's buttbothered
i'd rather have a signature about something I actually have an interest in than a pic of a buff dude with photoshopped colors/effects/filters surrounding him just to look cool (referring to what i used to have)
photoshop sig shops that used to be really common just pumped out stuff for people that didn't really reflect anything about the user who wore the signature
props if you make something yourself for yourself in photoshop, but what you want is just a bunch of people looking "cool" by wearing shit someone else made
Aug 8, 2012 6:57 AM #713385
Well, I wasn't really referring to the sig shops, but rather, just the signatures that people made themselves. I just thought it was cooler when people put their time into making their own sigs. Your idea of "what I want" isn't accurate. But I guess I didn't explain it well enough to really prevent a misunderstanding like that. My bad on that.

lol obi, your like a pacifist of forums.
I think it's just because people just don't really know how to do stuff like that, and when they do they just use it for advertising purposes~

you started this thread talking about a time when there were a lot of photoshop sigs, but I can tell you that there was never a time when everyone made their own, at least from my join date onwards. There would just be a select few who could do it, and everyone else would either request them or just ask if they can use one that has already been made. Hence why I mentioned the sig shops. Yeah, they'd get cool looking signatures (in your opinion, not mine) but most would just be based around some content that they didn't even give a shit about for very long. Maybe a video game or character they kind of liked at the time, but the thing is, people tend to keep them for fucking EVER out of courtesy to the creator. Like the people who still have them today, from like 2010 or further back. Your interests change, so what I personally do is change my signature a lot to whatever I think is really cool at the time. Having a signature based on something you just kinda thought was cool a year ago but you keep mainly since it looks really cool because of someone else's talent is just fucking gay brah, not some amazing creativity thing you should reminisce the extreme superiority of. That's my opinion.
Aug 8, 2012 7:22 AM #713408
I didn't particularly mean this forum alone, but fair enough. You've made your stance clear on the matter and despite any lingering tones of superiority, there's nothing wrong with that. There isn't anything wrong with keeping a signature of something that you liked a lot at one point in time though. If I had a Dragon Ball Z sig right, is it wrong for me to have one even though I don't care about Dragon Ball Z that much right now? If I still like the way the sig looks and know how I felt when I started using it, I'm not guilty of being "fucking gay brah".

you are in my eyes. What's the point of this thread if you're generalizing forums other than this one? You said "used to" and talked about the past a bunch, so are you saying that multiple nameless forums coincidentally stopped photoshopping? I wasn't aware of this phenomenon. Do you want all of us to take up photoshopping and start making our own photoshop signatures to emulate this fictional past you have in mind, or just talk about how cool it would be? Go to a photoshop forum. I originally used the word "gay" because I wasn't serious, but your condescending tone made me much more judgmental. Yeah, I don't care if you want to cling to the same DBZ signature forever, but don't make a thread asking why everyone else doesn't have the same preference.
You made points about how photoshop sigs mean you're showing more individuality and creativity, but my point was that you're wrong; keeping the same thing for a very long time when it no longer shows anything about you is inferior to using other forms of signatures that actually represent you. In terms of creativity, (on this forum, not whatever imaginary ones you may be thinking of) since most photoshop signatures made come from a select few people, the overall creativity of the forum is actually lower than when everyone who doesn't photoshop gets their signature in their own way. I'll denote inferiority with whatever phrase I feel like, one choice being "fucking gay brah."

I stopped using photoshopped sigs before it became mainstream, man.
Also, I still have some of my sigs I made and used ages ago on photobucket lol:

First one, wtf, "vista hater"? Second one, need for speed? I never even fucking played that game. Third one's the only OK one, but I never really got good at making them, and couldn't be bothered to. It just seems like a waste of time to me. When I saw peoples well-made signatures I didn't think any better of them or any worse of them, most of the time I didn't even think about it.

dude nigger, seriously fuck your signature. take out that fucking link that stretches across the whole fucking height of your signature. i am so fucking sick of opening a backround tab of fucking outworld. no one wants to go to that gay ass power hungry circle jerk of stickpage members
also i agree with index about signatures. maybe its because i've been here forever, but photoshopped signatures are so passé. its always some picture of some character, with swirls and smoke in the background, with the username or characters name... zzzzzzZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz. most cookie cutter unoriginal shit ever. also, userbars? holy shit, NO, GO AWAY USERBARS NO ONE LIKES YOU!!!!!!

Everyone seemed to like my first signature, and the rest of my older ones. anyone else remember them?
can't believe I still have this. jeez.
edit: And now my new signature is pointing to it as well. That's too fucking cool.
