Stickpage Animation Contest 2

This contest is open for everyone to join...

The prize structure for this contest is as follows:

  • First place prize is $300 dollars.
  • Second place prize is $200 dollars.
  • Third place prize is $150 dollars.
  • fourth place prize is $100 dollars.
  • Fifth place prize is $100 dollars.
  • Sixth place prize is $100 dollars.
  • Seventh place prize is $100 dollars.

Theme for this contest is as follows:

The theme is "Video Games". Bellow is a list of video games that each animator will be able to choose from to do there animation on. There can be no duplicates so first come first serve rules apply. However, winners of the first animation contest (Micool, Stone and T-Man) will all have the right to veto anyone else's selection and choose whichever game choice they want. Once a animator chooses there game theme then that theme is off limits to the rest.

  • Knights of the Old Republic - Cicada
  • LOTR Online
  • Metroid
  • Matrix the path of Neo - Scorpioxxx
  • Metal Gear Solid
  • Sonic the Hedgehog - Stone
  • Gran Turismo
  • Hitman - leo4life
  • Grand Theft Auto - Spazz
  • Mario - Mesmay
  • Street Fighter
  • Mortal Kombat - NegaDrain
  • Halo - mraznbuddy
  • Unreal Tournament - uppercut
  • Tony hawks Skateboarding - Exilement
  • Call of Duty - Raffi
  • Age of Empires
  • Starcraft - Enigma
  • World of Warcraft - aycaramba
  • Command and Conquer - HercuLeet
  • Guitar Hero - NTG
  • Warhammer
  • Counter Strike
  • Assassin's Creed
  • Gears of War - Drifts
  • Ninja Gaiden - Strife
  • God of War - Nhazul
  • Final Fantasy - SSJBryando
  • The Legend of Zelda - T-Man
  • Resident Evil - Miccool
  • Wolfenstein
  • Contra - Lf2Master
  • Doom - Audix
  • Megaman - Spitzer
  • Castlevania - Kitsune
  • Marvel versus X-men - Bubbleman
  • Diablo - Terkoiz
  • Devil May Cry - Tentionmaru
  • Portal - Lixu
  • Starfox - LN3uq
  • Kindom of Hearts - Rather Cheesy More like "Rather Stubborn". Damn you cheesy for making me put this crap game on here.

Note: Some of these games are a series as in Metal Gear Solid. When you select a game that has more then one part you can do a animation on any of the parts or all of them combined. Pick a game theme you believe is doable within the confines of your animating skill and not just because it's cool. You will have a limited time to work on this so pick something that you can sum up quickly or redo (in your own way) a famous scene.

Contest Rules are as follows:

  • Animation length should be no less then 3 minutes. That's three minutes of actual animation, not including intros.
  • No foul language, nudity or adult themes.
  • Try to keep the file size lower then 4 megs, lower the sound quality as too many people make the mistake of using perfect sound at the risk of large file sizes.
  • Use a preloader and have a start button or menu screen. Nobody likes animations that just start. They want to be able to push start.
  • Please include a stickpage.com intro animation that links to stickpage.com in a new window.
  • Please include a persistent link to stickpage.com in the top corner that links to stickpage.com in a new window.
  • Make sure to give yourself proper credit but please, no links, logos or names of any other sites other then Stickpage.com.
  • The structure of the animation should be stick figure based. Now if you feel you need to draw a character like "Mario" for cinematic appeal then do so as long as that character is in a supporting role and not the main character. This rule applys to props as well although backgrounds can be straight from the game.
  • You have 6 weeks to complete this animation. June 19th 2008 is the due date.
Note: Information regarding the rules and content regarding this contest may be altered or changed during the course of the contest so keep your eye's peeled to this thread.

Good luck...

Tips, Hints, Tactics and Advice:
Once your completed your entry, PM me the final product. All the best animations will go on the frontpage of Stickpage.com regardless if you win a cash prize or not. Once again we will release one animation a day leading up to the first place winner. Do not submit your animation to any other site until it has been released on Stickpage.com!

Tip: Do not show your animation to anyone but me prior to the animation being released on Stickpage.com! More times then not I will find out if your animation has been shown to other members because nobody in this community can keep there mouth shut for 2 seconds regarding a secret. If I find out you been whoring your secret contest entry out then you'll know why I called this a tip.

Tip: If your going to do credits at the end of your animation. Make sure you slow the text down so people can actually read it. It's ridiculous the amount of rolling text credits that speed by at 100 miles per hour making it impossible to read. There's no point in having credits if people can't read them.

Tip: If your not going to finish, if your animating habits show a distinct history of never finishing anything then be a man and bow out now and give someone else a chance to compete. All these themes were selected because there great games. If you hold a popular theme and then don't finish then your a little girl and will be made fun of for being a pansy little girl on this forum. I may even sticky the thread for added embarrassment. Followed by a ban...

Hint: For those of you worried about the length of time you have to complete this project. I may extend the time depending on the number of people finished by the due date. Note, maybe...

Tactics: I hear a lot of people complaining about the 3 minutes of actual animation. Look people, although a full 3 minutes of crazy fighting would be wicked. You don't have to make the full 3 minutes action packed. Like take some time to add a storyline. You can easily make a riveting action packed animation if you have your characters do some talking back and forth which will be easier to animate and take less time then action scenes. Plus giving your animation some story will make the action scenes mean more.

Remember how crazy it was when Luke battled with Vader in episode 5? Now imagine you didn't know anything about Star Wars and you turned on the movie as soon as that battle took place. Now imagine your movie was a Mongolian subtitled remake and your subtitles on your T.V. were broken and you never herd Vader tell Luke that he's his Father. Now how crazy wicked is that battle? Check and mate people, check and mate!

Advice: Don't suck!

Would my style be considered "stick"?

If so, then Metroid.
2nd preference, Hitman.

I could MAYBE do normal sticks, but, you know, meh...

No, you can't enter with your style...

It doesn't have to be rpg style right T_T I can just make them move normal and attack. like in ff12. Probably, just making sure.

That's correct, you can do it like any of the games under the series of FF.

Assasins Creed for me please.

Aren't you the kid who was making a mania in Pivot because he didn't have the money for Flash? I'm pretty sure this contest is exclusive to Flash users due to the guidelines Zulu gave and the fact that this is going on Stickpage.com.

Oh, and Zewlz, I wanted to clarify something. This is the style of stick figures I wanted to implement in my animation:
Image

As you can see, it implements a the use of fullbody, but still retains the stick figure look. I just wanted to make sure I can use this for my animation.

If we are limited and someone vetos my Castlevania choice, I choose Metroid.

So everybody else knows, don't list your veto choice until your selection is actually vetoed cause I won't remember.

Dig-Dug is not an option so Castlevania it is...

DMC is looking pretty tempting. throw GOD HAND on the list and I'd enter in a heartbeat.

I don't think I've even ever herd of GOD HAND. I can only give game options that are popular. DMC is yours if you want it...

I'm having an introduction, and that's not included with the total counted amount of time? Like if my animation is 2:59 and my intro is 30 seconds, it doesn't matter? Just clarifying here. I want to be absolutely sure with everything before I begin.

Do you prefer top left or top right corner with the stickpage link?

We must stick to the concept on the game and none else? Castlevania has multiple games in the series, so may we blend some things in together in each game or keep one single game concept?

3 minutes of animation not including intros and menus. If your animation is 2:59 I'm not gonna disqualify you but there will be a limit to how far I will stretch that.

I don't care, either or...

Yes as I explained in my first post. You can blend all the games together or focus on one. As long as it's within a Casltevania theme I don't care...
