DO's and DON'Ts in a spam attack

Why is this important?

-Stickpage portal has been recieving many spam attacks lately. I think it is important for new and old members to know how to handle a spam attack. The mods will handle the problem, but it's the members who we count on to help.
What is a spam attack?
-A spam attack is when a person signs on spp to deliberately post spam in the form of threads, posts, or explicit content.
Well, what if a mod is not availiable during one?
-To start, follow this tutorial's instructions. If the person is posting explicit content, then try not to stay on the site if it bothers you. If you have a mod on your msn, yahoo, or aim list, sign in or look for another way to contact a mod.
-Even if a mod is not available, do not try to take responsibility over the confused. Do not try to inform other members of obvious things. Do not try to act mod-like, you might be adding to the problems.

To sum it up, there are 3 types of spam attacks.
1) The lonesome attack
-The lonesome attack is where a member, adbot, or sexbot has decided not to keep their account and spam. With a bot, it will usually be one post.
-DO's= report any posts that are within a thread, ignore the person with great patience.
-DON'Ts= send hate pms to the person, stimulate the person, QUOTE any of their posts, post in a thread made by him/her, or act like a fellow spammer to the slightest degree.

2) Single man strike force
-This type is where a person decides to purposely spam and create new accounts. This type can go on for awhile, so it's important to follow the rules.
-DO's= report any posts within threads (especially if the mods haven't deleted it), attempt to contact a mod if necessary,
-DON'Ts= post in any thread made by the person, quote the person under any circumstances (even in a pm), post in any thread made by the person, try to send a list of accounts to the mods, sustain a conversation with him, or act like you are helping him in any way.

3) A real problem
- This is when one or more members simultaneously spam. This is usually a coordinated strike and should be dealt with the most caution.
-DO's= sign off for awhile if you can't help, turn off your images (via opera or popup tools), contact a mod/admin, report a post from each attacker to help us ban them all, and avoid going into any threads made by them.
-DON'Ts= quote them or attempt to talk to them, contact any of them during the attack, stick up for them during the attack or pm a mod after the beginning of the attack.

Explicit content and gross pornography: sometimes, spam attackers have the audacity to use such content in their spam. It is wise that you do not sign on if you can't bear the image. Please add them to your ignore list via usercp. If it is in link form, be sure you do not click the link without checking it. Turn off your images, popups, and javascript if you have the ability to do so.

And remember kids, don't post in a spammers thread.
It causes cancer.

I don't really think this is that helpful, because most of it is common sense.
But I bet it took you a long time to write.

So props on that.

Great idea for a thread, especially around this joyous time of the year. Most people don't have the common sense to do any of that, so hopefully this sticky ;) will be helpful in extinguishing wildspams as quickly as possible.

Thanks for the addition.

And yes, most of this is common sense. It's nothing more than fire safety week like in elementary school. If anything ever happens, you know how react.

Thanks for reading, guys.

I don't agree with that.

If it's common sense then threads full of spam and that are started spam wouldnt live and grow so fast.

People have the idea that replying to it and saying "that's a no-no" will make it all better.

Yes, it's common sense, but idiots like some certain people just have the urge to post in it, making it worse.

This just get's the message across more clearer.

That is unlikely to happen and if it did the mods could do nothing against it.
